I even impressed my self! That diet I put my right foot on must work! The wife drove to work 2 days in Indy, I took her in today cause hers is in the shop...again. And we even loaded it up with goodies at the lumber yard on the weekend. Maybe the window tint I am getting done today will help too! Going 15%!

I'll be sure to change my signature picture with updated tint picture, plus that is really my 03 with a 5 speed in the picture. If you go to a 04 with 5 speed you also get away from the "drive by wire" gas pedal!

I just filled up. 12.4 gallons @ 454 miles. That is over all driving with a good bit in town. 36.6. I think that is pretty dang good for a gt on regular. Paid 3.59 per gallon. The first station I stopped at was out of fuel.Dan

I'm jumping in on the scangauge groupbuy over at CleanMPG. You guys cause me so much grief with your shiney toys!!! I also have to snag my boyfriend one, because I in turn cause him grief when I get a shiney new toy for Pandora.Last tank I did some hypermiling and got 34 mpg. I'd say 1/2 of my driving is highway versus city. This tank, I've driven 110 miles and I'm down 1/4 tank. I can't remember what I used to get for the first quarter tank, but i know this is good so far.

Joe, get the scangauge while you can get it for a good price. It is about as easy to swap between cars as the gps. U can alsways find a bargain on the gps unit later.Dan

On the GPS, have you ever tried to see if the MPH were accurate? Good way to be sure your speedo is right and you are getting the mileage you think you are! My sister has a GPS program on her laptop. I don't think they use it since she lost most or her sight and she doesn't go out in the rig with the brother in law like she used too. I know they just loved that GPS!

I only look at my gps for speedometer. I use it mostly in the Motorhome as I have large tires and the speedo is way off. In the car it is pretty close but I like the digital readout better than the analog. It is easy to glance very quick at the gps speed.Dan

I just filled up... 110 miles to 2.9G of gas... 37.9mpg... but that was on the bike, usually above 6k rpms. Haven't drove the vibe much this week, but I've noticed my LOD goes from about 20 @ idle in gear to 15 or less when in neutral, and after the vibe is warmed up, the rpm idles around the same # as when in gear... It's getting nicer so I drive the vibe less, and the bike more, but will still play with the vibe to try and get a little better in town MPG's.

I would guess that being in a warmer and flatter area helps my numbers. It appears those in colder climates get the worst mileage, yet even that is fairly good.I'm doing better than the initial EPA ratings so I'm satisfied.

Just an update related to mileage after getting back from our Milwaukee to California trip in our daughter's Vibe ('06 5 spd.). The car was pretty heavily loaded with 2 people, 2 cats, and lots of cargo incl. a couple hundred pounds of books. Left Friday at 10 am and got home at 7:30 pm Saturday for a total of 2163 miles in 35.5 hours. Strong headwind the first day but pretty calm on Saturday. Mileage overall was 38.0 mpg. Also did a constant-speed test while driving along the Great Salt Lake (perfectly flat, straight road with almost no wind). At 68 mph (actual speed, speedometer read 71) the mileage was 40.7 mpg.A few notes on the scangauge readings:Our indicated TPS at idle agrees with Kamikaze's - 15 or 16 in the 5-spd Vibe (I haven't checked it in our automatic one).Gas usage was reading almost 11% low initially until we calibrated it after the first full tank.Water temperature usually is about 182 F which seems a little low (what's the thermostat supposed to be in these cars?). It did get up to 190 F on a long climb over the Sierras and later in the Central Valley where the ambient air temperature was up to 106 F.Anybody know how to interpret the oxygen sensor and the short/longterm fuel trim readings for our cars?BTW, the car will soon reach the end of the 36k warranty - any suggestions on things to look over before it's too late? Car has been trouble free so far except for an initial broken contact for the rear wiper. The front tire tread is getting a little low so I'll rotate them soon.

It's interesting that you say that because I think I already know what they'd find. I have the CEL P0441 P0442 P0446. Evap Canister needs to be replaced. Emissions are what strangle the fuel economy on moden engines and I know mine isn't meeting them. I don't actually believe that testing at the tail pipe would find any problem, it's just a conspiracy. This little defect in mine is my little gem and I'm not letting anyone tell me to spend $300 to reduce my mileage back to "normal".

Quote, originally posted by jake75 »What is the "Evap Canister"?The evaporative canister contains charcoal that absorbs gasoline vapors evaporating from your gas tank to keep them from getting into the atmosphere. When the engine is running it applies a slight vacuum to the canister and pulls out the gasoline vapor so it can be burned together with the gas from the fuel pump. The canister system shouldn't have any significant effect on fuel economy in either the positive or negative direction.RePo's mileage doesn't strike me as surprising. Our Vibes get about 40 mpg on trips if we're a little conservative with the gas pedal. The most recent trip (Milwaukee - Cal. as posted in the other mileage thread) only got 38 mpg but we had a headwind and were in somewhat of a hurry. City mileage varies all over depending on the type of city and conditions so I don't find it very useful for comparisons.

Wyatt,U can up that mileage on the GT a lot by changing your driving habits and using the Scangauge. I am getting 37.5 pretty consistantly without the air on our GT. I ran the interstate Saturday with air and still got 33.5. That was driving 65 mph, cruise, and up and down hills in the Ozarks.Just a thought.Dan

scangauge just shows readouts, mpg etc. so if you display current mpg, you may change your driving habits to get better mileage..

I paid 159.00 for my scangauge. It displays the perfomance of your engine allowing you to adjust for better mileage. It does nothing itself but give you readings. It does show current mpg but I do my own calculating. I find the tps monitoring helps me the most. I have larger tires on my gt and it allows me to adjust the speedometer, in it, to compensate for the larger diameter. Will do same if u undersize the tires. Just a pretty nifty tool that has really helped us in our driving habits. I have had it a year now and suspect I have paid for it in savings. Many in this group run the scangauge.Dan

It just plugs into the engine computer slot under the dash, left side of wheel. Mounts easy. Mine is on my steering column so I can see it. Looks factory. Can match the backlighting to the dash lites. If you do not get in on a group buy just go to ebay and type in scangauge. 159.00 with free ship.Dan

09 Vibe 1.8L 5 speed manual. Just filled up and got 32 mpg all city driving. A lot better than my old Nissan Quest that was getting about 15 mpg around town.

Quote, originally posted by Burns1210 »How did you calibrate the gas guage? I know on mine, it's on dead E but only takes 11 gallons to top off. It's supposed to hold 13.2.he was talking about the scangauge, not the Vibe's gas gauge. On a scangauge you can adjust the calibration, since it reads gas usage from the cars computer, but you can't on the Vibe's gas gauge which reads the level of the float in the tank directly. I think they make gas gauges behave like that on purpose, so that it's harder to run out of gas. Worse is the other way, I had a car that was bone dry empty when the gas gauge still read 1/8 tank. I ended up scratching a line on the plastic to remind me of where empty really was.My gas mileage (mpg's) seemed to drop about 10% when I replaced my Bridgestone Turanza LST's with Goodyear Tripletreds last fall. I was hoping the warmer weather woudl help bring it back to where ti was, and it has helped some, but I'm still down from where I was this time last year.
