Do you have clear-coat paint around hatch

Post by jasonvibe »

On my 2005 metallic silver-I mentioned this a while back. I noticed that there was no clear coat around my body moulding of the rear hatch. Also none on the inside of the hatch itself is cleared. As if the clear was applied with the hatch closed. IS your's the same. see poll for 2003 -2008 Vibes. Also my dealer(under warranty) has repainted this area with color and clear due to tiny specs of rust coming through. Did a good job. As there was no rust on the hatch itself, I did not force the issue with the interior of the hatch. I guess I should have done the poll before I took it in...

It may be clear coated but it is a flat black and not the metallic flec. Proper care and maintenance help me to avoid rust spots and other tarnished areas. A simple wipe down after washing with a wet cloth and a quick top coat of wax on those areas goes a long way as well.

Dull or flat look or has a slight grainy feel = no clear coat. If you look carefully you can actually see where the clear just STOPS. WaveAction, what color is yours , light blue?, and check again... Whelan, I am also happy to see the Matrix is also painted the same. SO it is just a policy. "use as little paint as possible". Something I feel, that is not good for quality.

are you talking about the hatch jam??? most dor jams and hatch jams aren't cleared. its a different type of paint. or some people will use a single stage which has clear coat mixed in

Every car I have had w/metallic paint has had these areas cleared. Especially the door jams. I have been told Toyota cuts costs in these areas and I guess Numi has followed. If no one believes me that most have this cleared. Check any SUV...like a Trailblazer or other large type w/hatch. All cars have the door jams cleared. At least my Vibe has the door jams cleared. Oh well, live and learn. Thanks.
