Text messaging costs

This is interesting, and a little scary.http://www.physorg.com/news129793047.htmlI'm not exactly sure how much 5P is in North American dollars (CDN & US being almost par these days).I have my kids signed up for free texting up to 1,000 messages per month or so.I do maybe 5 in a month.And it usually takes me about six times longer to tap it out, than it would have to just do a voice call.

I HATE TEXT MESSAGES...I wouldn't mind them if I only got charged for the ones that I do... But I get charged for every single one that I get... and then of course I reply with STOP TEXTING ME.. and get charged again...

once i got my iphone, texting went through the roof as its just like IM'ing on like msn messenger or aim. I had only 300 texts per month free before...yeah i went 500 over the first month with the iphone so im at unlimited now....

for me i go with u.s. cellular as my carrier and have free incomming text and picture messages because of the ammount of minutes i have. when i had texting i got 250 outgoing texts for $5. i got rid of them cause i didn't use it enough. i basiclly would use texting to contact someone when i was at work, like "hey, get off at 8. we all hanging out?" i'd get a reply and that was the end of the conversation. i myself cannot find the point of holding a conversation in texting, it's slower and you cannot hear sarcasm or any implied meanings. as for trying to get people to stop texting you; call them back and say it. don't charge yourself sending a text.

I don't understand text messaging on your phone. When the telephone was invented, people didn't go back to sending messages on the telegraph.

I love to text, so does my gf and most of my friends. I only had 450 minutes on my phone plan with Verizon but I send over 1000 messages a month.I have an all inclusive plan so for what I pay I get unlimited text, pix, flix to anyone on any network as much as I want. I also can call any Verizon person free anytime I need too.Oh and using the Word, T9 feature saves A LOT of time.

My son is in the Marines and he can't always talk but he can usually text.Also he can read a text easier than listening to voicemail.We have verizon,and he has unlimited texting(he texts over 1000 messages a month) and I pay ten bucks a month extra for unlimited verizon to verizon and 500 outside texts.Of course I only text him,but its well worth it to me for the constant communication as he is only 18 and over 3000 miles from home out there in Norfolk.

I don't do much texting, usually between my wife and I if for some reason either of us can't talk at the time.

i find it funny..cause when i had a cell phone..it was cheaper and faster to actually call someone then to text..i used to spend like $40 a month on txting alone..where as if i talked it would have cost nothing cause of the plan

I have a 1000 txt messge plan and I never had a problem with going over my limit.I text more often than calling, even though it takes more time. That way I can respond on my time and do other things. When I am multi tasking, I find it easier to stop and text for 5 seconds then try and work with the phone to my ear. Plus I have a really cool text message tone! haha

i used to have an unlimited text plan, but i recently dropped it down to 1000 messages (to save a whole $5 wahoo!) I used to go thru about 1500 messages in a month, but T-mobile uses text messages for AIM and Yahoo on the phone. but I now have a laptop, so I no longer use the AIM/Yahoo on the phone.

I don't really understand how transmitting data via the hubble cost's money...unless it's routed through a satellite that they have to pay for data transfer...I would think they would use their own.:

I use texting to contact friends, family, and my boss when trying to fill them in on information that wouldn't necessarily necessitate talking to them.For example, confirming to my boss when he needs to know something went out in the mail or email and I know he is in a meeting.I also find it convenient for informing people that I may be late, or what an address is, etc.Sure I can talk to them on the phone but sometimes, its best to have the information "written" down and easily retrievable. The discussion of going back to the telegraph is irrelevant - you still use snail mail despite the existence of electronic mail. Times change, technology evolves.I don't like to carry on a conversation with text messages thouhg - that is why I have voice minutes.A friend at work recently got his 15 yr old daughter a cell phone and the first month she sent over 7900 text messages. She received over 8100 messages. I can't imagine how she did anything else.
