I've an 03 AWD. I need some trans fluid so I called GM. They have no idea what the hell Type IV is, and said they list Dexron 4 as the proper fluid. Can you guys confirm this?
IMO since its a toyota engine stick with toyota fluid, it will probably be cheaper too I got mine at toyota for maybe 6-7 dollars a quart. I forgot which dexron is what type.....

These are differnt fluids, but I am not able to tell you what the differences are. seeing that the engine and tranny are Toyota products I would stick with their fluids.Look for the fluid that mentions toyota Type IV often the front of the bottle may say something about Import. If it dosent say Type IV on the bottle I would put it back on the shelf.I have seen that Pep Boys carries an approved fluid i forget the brand. I think O'Riley now carries the Royal Purple ATF fluid that is Type IV compliant.
When I bought some recently at Toyota dealer, the parts man said they were the only place to get Type !V. I didn't find any in parts stores before going to Toyota dealer.
All that being said, I agree with all of you about the Toyota fluid. Now, is Type IV different than +4, which there is a fluid at the parts store that lists a compatible +4 fluid that meets GM requirements, but I'm not sure if that includes the Vibe
On another note, I think I'm going to call GM's head office and file a complaint. I can't believe the dealership does not know what Type IV is? Had I not used this site or had the fore thought to investigate a little further, I would have used the Dexron 4. Thankfully the sticker on the dipstick put up the first warning flag. Had I smoked the transmission with the wrong fluid, recomended by the dealer, I'm sure I'm the one that was going to end up eating the replacement transmission bill.
I just changed my 04 Vibe Auto Trans fluid this morning with 3.2 quarts of Castrol T-IV import trans fluid. http://www.castrol.com/castrol...28224It was $3.98/quart at my local store.
I would love to change the world, but they won't give me the source code
