Hello all! I signed up here to look around for ideas and info on my son's first car. While I'm a Mustang guy, (I've owned my daily driver 87 LX 5.0 for 21 yrs and 285K+ miles) we wanted something that could haul his band stuff AND get good gas mileage, thus we stumbled onto the Vibe. He really likes it. (what teenager wouldn't like his first car! LOL!)We got a GM certified 06, 18 months old, with 7,053 miles. It was traded in on an Impala by an older couple (so the dealer says) but it is in absolutely perfect shape, with only one tiny door ding. It is the color he wanted, with the power package. The only thing I would have added is alloy wheels, but that can come later.I'll be lurking around getting ideas, so we (I) can fix his car up. He's not a real car guy but maybe I can at least get him interested in his own car! I've learned a LOT about upgrading my Mustang to later model specs on the related websites, hopefully I can learn a lot from here too. Thanks!
Thomas

Welcome and nice vibe/post with pics! Keep your eye's posted on the for sale/wanted ads, you could probably come across a good deal on some alloy wheels, stock or maybe even aftermarket...I had an 85 GT hatch, so I know exactly what you're saying about some of the mods between models... that's probably one thing that the vibe/trix lacks of... I always told myself if I got another stang 87-93 it would have to have the 85's taillights... since they were pretty unique w/the yellow instead of just red/white, and in 93 only the Cobra's had the same style tails. (I haven't talked mustang in 8-10 years so I'm a little rusty)
LOL! You are right on about the Mustangs. Easy to work on and fun to drive. I've put in a newer interior, Cobra brakes and a few other things, but never touched the motor. Not quite as refined as newer cars, but hey, I haven't had a car paymnet for 15 years!

That looks nice.. (for being 20 years old & 285k+ miles) Love the brake/wheel upgrade. man if I could get my hands on one like your's cheap... I'd have a fun new project!I'd ask if you're planning on refreshing the body (new paint, headlights (sandblasted over the years) etc... but then I thought... if you did that, you'd also want to redo the motor, and then it would be all brand new and pretty and you wouldn't want to drive it everywhere...worried about dings / dirt... etc... My Dad just sold his 96 Cobra (in 68 he had a 66 Shelby GT350H) so you could say stangs run in the family.I will buy another one.. but for now, I'm having fun playing with the vibe, and the motorcycle.
welcome to the family, and you couldn't have picked a better color (not that i'm biased or anything)

Paint & body has been in the "works" for a few years, but just have never had the time & money to do it. I have a painter friend that will do it all cheap with my help. I want to hit 300K before I touch the motor. And you are right, I am afraid something would happen to it (stolen!) if I fix it all up. I like driving it too much to stop. Unless of course I can get a newer one! Once I get it done, It should look like this one: http://i257.photobucket.com/al...0.jpgMustangs run in my family too. My dad got a new 65 fastback when I was born. It was his idea of a "family car" LOL! But it sure beats putting a baby & all the stuff in a 2 seater Bugeye Sprite! LOL!I sure hope these Vibe guys don't mind our little non Vibe discussion! LOL!

It's your post. so as long as you don't care.. they shouldn't care... actually, we've got some guys here that don't even have vibe's anymore and the post pics of their cars and contribute to our topics. Honestly I think this community is one of the best for just general people helping people sites... I belong to some other forms, and man, some of the people are down right rude.. not saying we don't have that, but for the majority of it, we keep it pretty low-key.Love the pic of what you hope for your stang to look like I've never seen that color look so good!

I just backed it out of the garage and snapped those so I could make a post WITH PICS! We bought the car from a Chevy dealer, the finance guy gave me a "hard time" since a Mustang guy was buying a car at a Chevy dealership. I told him I wasn't prejudiced! LOL! I took good care of it until the paint started chipping off. I was planning to keep the moulding black, but the guy that owns the car above had his all painted a couple of weeks ago, and after seeing his, I decided to go monotone like the 92-93 cars.

Your's still looks good sure it needs a little TLC, but what do you expect? I'm so 50/50 on the molding... yeah the monotone looks REALLY nice, but then again, new paint on your's with the black molding would look good too. on a side note... I'm a little particular to the 85's obviously since it was my first car, but I liked the black out on the hood, also it was the last year of the carb, first year w/ roller cam. in 86 when they went FI it lost 10HP, and they changed the speedo to read only to 85mph... I can't tell you how many times in my young stupid days that the needle was above 85 probably stuff you're already aware of, but it's fun to talk about.I've been looking for a 85, or a 89-93 as a project car... would prefer a 5.0LX or hatch, but really don't want a GT unless it's a 93.
Hey TRB good to see another Mustang guy around. I still have my 65 2t2, since I was 15. The son had a 68, daughter had a 91 GT and I also had a 95 Cobra, all at same time. The Vibe GT is a blast to drive, even for a Mustang Man.

I hope to (someday, probably after I win the lottery!) get my own 65 fastback. I even have some brand new 1965 Texas license plates for it. I drove his car a bit last weekend, and for a basic 4 cyl, it was not bad. Of couse it has about 1/2 the HP I'm used to, and the wrong wheels drive it, but hey, I bet the GT is not bad. I was just thinking earlier today, I might look at a 2009 GT and possibly consider trading in the wife's Yukon later on for a 2009 or 2010 model. Payments would be about the same and 2-3 times better gas mileage! She liked my son's car too, and my other kids really enjoyed riding in their brother's new car!

I am still amazed at the compliments we get on the Vibe. Just yesterday I got another one. Most folks do not know about the Vibes. They really have no clue about the Yamaha engine under the hood of the GT. Take the son's Vibe every chance you get.Dan
