First AutoX of the season!

Post by AKLGT »

Well this past weekend was the first event thrashing the new car. :D I will say that I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of seat time I had and the car handles amazing with just the stock suspension. We had enough time for a few extra runs and I swapped cars with hubby for one. I can definitely say his 07 STI handles a bit different from the 08, the weight transfer is not as even or smooth as in the hatch. Plus, he has race slicks and I am on stock wheels/tires. Lots of pics were taken, but I'm just waiting to get copies since they were done by other people. Waiting for the vid of Phil's fun run (sorry, but I wasn't as good at holding the camera steady!)In car vid of one fun run (Hubby is holding the camera)a few taken by a friendPhil

When your driving the track it's not nearly as hard to tell where to go.Hope: that was a really nice run (I don't have sound at work) but it looked pretty smooth, Do they switch that track around? or do you know it pretty good?

well, they change the course each event, but there is always a 180 turn on one end and a slalom on the other. it just depends on what's in the middle that's usually different. LOL.But Phil's vid finally uploaded but my camera skills are lacking in comparison to his, so.... quite a bit choppy. sorry. For comparison sake, my run was 38.863 on street tires and this run with Phil was 38.319 on race rubber. granted, having an extra person in the car throws off your weight ratio, so you have to adjust a little. Neither runs were our fastest times of the day, Phil ran 37.492 (counted) and my fastest was 37.801 (didn't count because it was a fun run). My fastest time that counted was 38.571.

hehe yeah thats not that steady ^^^ ah well. It gives off the illusion that I'm going VERY fast. The weight transfer (rotation) is different in the 08 STi but I can't say its better then my 07. Both cars handle VERY well but in their own different way. I have the slicks on my car but last year ran DOT street/summer tires. They handled very well also and the weight rotation felt the same on them as it did on the slicks. only difference is of course the slicks have some GRIP. Doesn't mean it made me faster though. I'm not at liberty to say which car is actually better because as I said... both are VERY good but different. I am more then happy with mine.

Yeah, I noticed the crack too, wait... there was a track? I thought he was just flying down a country road LOL...Mav, you're right, it does look faster just b/c of how the camera is...You got some mad camera skills, Hope's track vid was sooo smooth. You would have been a second quicker w/o the crack, b/c the added stability of an uncracked windshield should yield an extra 5-10hp

well the crack was from a rock I had hit the window at the beginning of the winter. The rock chip I got on the first day of ownership however has not spread.I bet I would have been faster with a clear windshield. I was also holding the camera with both hands, Hope wasn't.

Love the shots, i've only gotten to autocross once and that was just a "for fun" day... that standing around alllllll day to get 4-5 runs isn't worth it to me... Looks like a lot of fun was had though, I would like to see what my subie would do, but dealing with the 2.0's total lack of torque below 3k and add to that lag, I wouldn't be doing much... I NEED a 2.5L swap...!! killer pics, good video....

LOL...someone got told...lolHow much does it cost to AutoX anyways? There's a couple of different clubs here. A coworker takes his M3 to one, but it isn't SCCA AX and it costs like $250 a day.

That's really not bad at all - certainly better than the $250/day.
