Hitch for 2009 GT

Post by Theodoreable »

With the cycling season upon us, I would really like to be able to carry two bikes via a rear hitch. I know there are new hitches out there for the 2009, even tried installing the Curt brand. However, the rear fascia on the GT has so far prevented installation of a hitch. One would have to remove the fascia, install the hitch and then cut the fascia to permit access to the receiver. Anyone know of a hitch that would fit the 2009 GT without modifications? Many thanks.

the 09s are still really new, so i wouldn't expect something like that for a few more months. have you considered the roof racks yet??

Thanks for replying. I didn't want to go with a roof rack; I've heard a few horror stories where people forgot that the bike was up there or underestimated head room. Both car and bike were damaged. I also already own two really great hitch racks.

I have seen the aftermath of forgetting about bikes on the roof. There are also drawbacks to the hitch mounts. What if someone rear-ends you?

The Curt hitch for the 2009 Vibe only fits the FWD model, not the AWD model. They're working on one and I'm waiting for it.

Although I would not be happy with damage to either my bike or the Vibe, at least if someone rear ends you it would be, (I hope,) THEIR fault. With the roof rack, it would be mine. I think the first situation might be a bit easier to live with.
