2003 Vibe GT AFE air intake problem

I installed the AFE cold air intake on my 03 Vibe GT today and was baffled at how pathetic the instructions were. My problem is what to do with the sensor that is attached to the front left side of the air box and valves connected to it. Its a brown sensor with a smal black cylinder attached to it. Im not sure what its function is. The instructions say to remove the airbox along with that piece and than never say what to do after. does any one know what to do with it? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

I think I downloaded the manuals for the Injen and AEM CAIs to use as a reference in addition to the one I got from Cosmo.

so u jsut left that brown sensor attached to the wheel wall but not actually pluged into anything?

are you refering to the maf??? if thats the case there should be a hole in the pipe. i know on mine i had to leave some vacuum lines loose but nothing like what u are talking about

Naw its not the MAF its a brown sensor that was origanally on the front left side of the air box and had 2 valves connected to it

Took mine off and capped a couple vacuum lines.Dan

dont feel bad. a lot of other intakes forget the intsruction for the gt. he is taking about that little solenoid flap door thing.if you do a search for intakes on gt's here you should find what you need. some people tie it off. some cap it.

yup thats exactly what im talkin about. I capped it and the only thing buggin me now is that i have the check valve coming off the engine suckin air and nothing to conect it to. I went to a mechanic and he suggested just plugging it. So right now it simply has a screw in it keeping it plugged. The engine runs great and all, just wanted to know if that is a vital valve since its sucking air? Ive also had the check engine light on due to a faulty CAT which I am getting replaced under warranty thurs. Would the CAI cause the check engine light to come on? I also realized that installing the CAI might void the warranty. But I hope they can't refuse to do it under the warranty if they ordered the CAT and diagnosed the problem before the intake was installed.

so i found a great photo instruction and from waht i can tell you scrap both the brown sensor and 3 valves, one coming from the engine/ throttle body that connects to the check valve which than connects to a "t", and than the other two coming off the "t". Can any one confirm this? Also what do i do with the nipple coming off the engine/throttle body? Thanks for any feed back. Im basically a virgin when it comes to digging under the hood.

I can try to get you some pics. I went through this PITA with my K&N install. The little valve with two vacuum connections is for the door on the back of the factory airbox. It gets vacuum all the time from the engine, keeping the door closed on the air box, and when you hit lift, its closes allowing the door on the airbox to open. You just disconnect the lines from it, but leave the electrical connector in place. You can cap it to keep dirt and moisture out. The vacuum line coming off the intake goes to the check valve, then the hose runs to the front of the manifold. K&N tech support couldn't even tell me how to hook it up. I had to figure it out on my own.......stay tuned for pics.

I think this is the brown sensor you speak of. There are no vac lines connected to it anymore:This vacuum hose comes out above the throttle body. Its covered with a sheath:It connects to this one way check valve:Then another hose runs from the valve to another switch under the throttle body on the front of the intake manifold:Hopefully this helps. Not sure if yours will be the same since mine is an 06'

Those pics are great and that is the sensor im talking about. but after installation what are both ends of the check valve hose attacked to? Or is that also removed
