Someone on here is running those. I saw it last week. I paid close attention because I am running 225x45 and am thinking about bumping up to 245 on my GT.
Hello...I am... Toyo Proxes 4. Not the best for snow though. A thinner tread patch would be better for snow. I do find it to follow any grooves or ruts in the road a bit more than the 215s or even the 235s I had on before but I like the width. Looks good on the car and gives excellent traction. No squealing on hard turns at all.
Hey...Well, ya didn't say that before... But MadBill had 275/40's on a 1 1/2" lowered Vibe. I think he had minor rubbing but only on bigger dips in the road. It was discussed here some... http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=17412 Dave
Got 235/45/17's on since last August ( 2007 ) and they look and drive great! Kinda wish I would have put the 245's on.The stock 17" is 7" wide and I'm no expert, but I feel the 245's would have no prob fitting that wheel.Keep us posted if you go 245
I don't want to sound brash, but there is absoultly no reason to put that wide of a tire on these cars... They can barely muster enough suspension to use a 225 much less a 245.... I digress though, if you want to pay what you will pay for the looks, it's all you... I'm going to be running 215/45-17 on my Subie and it's 5 times the car, power and suspension wise, than a vibe.. as far as putting that size of a tire on a 7" or even an 8" wide rim, you will be just HURTING the overall performance, because the tire will "crown" on that skinny of a rim... Crowning is where the sidewalls get pinched between the edges of the rim (any mounted tire on a wheel) but if the tire is to wide, you don't get a flat contact patch.. and you will wear more down the center...
We all have our opinions and our experiences. My response was direct to his question and then I referred him elsewhere for other opinions based on his question. As for your last comments, I have 245/45 Proxes 4's on TSW 17x8 wheels. And quite opposite to your comments, my centers are wearing much LESS than the outsides. My tire shop recommended me upping the pressure to 37-38 psi to even out the wear some, which is another thing people have opposing opinions on... But anyway, I currently have 47,455 miles on the 300 rated tire and with the centers NOT wearing out and upping the psi, I can probably easily get another 5-7,000. My last check, 3 weeks ago shows 3-4/32nds at the outsides and 5-6/32nds at the center.vibegtcouple, I should have asked if you have aftermarket, wider wheels. the 235 and the 245 really should be on 8" wide wheels or you may run into some of sublime's commented issues about crowning. I assumed since you were already considering the 235's that you had either had the wider wheel or had done the research.Dave

But a 245 on a 7" wide (not your 8" wide) rim is not a great Idea... I never said it couldn't be done, I just said that it's not going to yield anything but looks, and if anything hinder proper performance and shorten tread life... This is not from experience, I've never owned a tire that wide, because, I've never had a car that would have required it.. I Have done a lot of research and we have a Tire Rack guy on my Subaru forum that dispels a LOT of the myth to tire sizing for people... Many a person has tried to put to wide or to skinny of tire on a rim on NASIOC... generally they get corrected on the choices.. that is all... Wasn't trying to start an argument or anything of that nature, just passing on info I've gathered over the years.... I've been into performance cars now since 90' I've come a long way since then, but, never do I claim to be anything more than an information servant... Take from it what you will, leave the rest... Cheers,Aaron
