New member 1st post....I don't

Post by crashandburn »

own a Vibe, or any car for that matter...I have a truck but am looking for a small car for the gas mileage thing. My main concern, because of my age is gettin in and out of cars that are low to the ground. It looks to me that the Vibe has a HIGHER seating position that most all cars....is this the case?I like the mileage figure that a 5 speed Vibe is rated at...TIA

Sounds like the Vibe is what you need. It does have a higher seating position than most cars. I would also recommend trying one out. I see many more mature people driving them everyday.

I'm older than a lot of you, but not necessarily more mature...Love the seating position in the Vibe BTW. Definitely higher than my old Sunbird or Corolla. Also, if you want a small car with good fuel economy, but still need room to haul stuff, you can't do much better than the Vibe!

A vibe does have a nice ride height for those who have trouble getting out of cars like accords and civics. My father had RA... and he has no problems getting in and out of my car.My father also drives a VUE and he loves that because of how easy it is for him to get in and out of.Two options...

My father loves my Matrix, the higher seating position is a little deceiving cause it is a small car but tall, giving you much better visibility. My 05 also has the adjustable height like Tray's does. I think it was a standard feature. I love being able to more or less slide right in with little bending or moving. Compared to my Civic and Saturn (last cars owned) I felt like I was on the ground. It seems reviewers complain a lot about the glare from the gauge bezels since they are chrome and they reflect off the window. I have yet to notice this as a problem, you can see the reflection, but it's at the top of the windshield and I am not sure about the reviewers, but I am not looking up for birds or airplanes when I drive so it does not bother me.The 09's now have a tilt and telescopic wheel instead of just the tilt. I have not had an issue with this but others have.As for positioning, it's a very easy car to sit in, and drive with your left hand while it rests on the door panel. The center armest is also very comfortable to lean on.

For almost 20 yrs I drove a small truck [S-10 & Sonoma]. Several times I borrowed a Civic & felt like my backside was going to scrape the pavement. I don't feel like that in the Vibe. I really like this car and I'm getting much higher mpg.Go for a test drive!

Thanks everyone for the replys, my wifes last two cars were a Prizm and Saturn, these cars were fun to drive but for me a real pain because they were so low.I plan on visiting some dealers next week, I would hope to find a 08 but that does't look good.

welcome to the familyyou'll have no problem getting in and out of the vibe. my mom, grandma, and roommate all talk about how easy it was to get in and out of. especially when they compared it to my 90 300zx my clutch died on me right around the 30k mark. it went into gear fine, but it was slipping, gradually getting worse every time i drove it. another thing with the earlier model vibes was with the power windows. there's recently been a recall for it. for info, check here http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=32689

Forgive me if I'm stating the obvious, but being new to GenVibe - as Whelen was saying, the Toyota Matrix is the same car as the Pontiac Vibe. Same car mechanically (both Toyotas), just different sheetmetal. Even the interiors are nearly identical. So if you're looking and can't find an '08 Vibe, you might have a look if there are any '08 Matrixes(?) left around. I'm sure you would be VERY happy with either one!

It's a great car. It does sit a little higher than most cars.
