Cross Your Fingers (Promotion)

Post by Whelan »

I had a meeting with a fairly high up guy at my office yesterday. I work for Hewitt Associates out of Norwalk and have been a Benefits Analyst (BA) for 2 years now (come May). I really am looking to start moving up especially given my situation of getting married, buying a house and starting a family in a few years. So moving up is in my plan. Well I was sought out by this guy who I have known here and there through interactions. We were at a happy hour and he approached me to talk about my role, where I wanted to be and what he thought of my work so far. Pretty good when a guy this high up notices you.Long story short, we finally met yesterday and I'm trying to hold my excitement as I don't want to embellish or get all pumped for nothing. But we formulate a plan based on what I said and what he though of me. Bottom line is he is trying to aggressively get me to a BOM (Business Operations Manager) role where I would lead a client team of people like myself now. HUGE step to getting somewhere in the company. I would be leaving the entry role. I explained that I was wanted to be in this position by end of calendar year. He tilts his head and says, I was thinking more fiscal year (September). So we got a plan rolling, we are meeting again in two weeks to set down the process in stone. I told my father and he said it already sounds like they know where I am going, I am def. going there and it may be a lot sooner than I think. He says the fiscal year things was probably so they could fit my new salary and job title into the budget and things will move quick. So I am now dressing the part, black pants, button down tucked in shirt, no more jeans for me. I have been going beyond my typical 125% since I am probably being watched even more so now. And this all means the following for me if it happens;1) Salary raise in the neighborhood of almost $10,000.2) More income for us with a home and more breathing room on a tight budget.3) Ability to leave my barbacking job and have my weekends free.4) Return to normal hours instead of current flex schedule.5) Getting into a management role as a stepping stone to become a Project Manager (BSM) as the person spoke with really wants me in that role as well, but you need to step before you leap.Bottom line is this is a HUGE opportunity for me and my fiance as well since it seems we are doing so well with our life, the wedding, the house (hopefully, still keeping my other fingers crossed on that), and just things in general. So hopefully it all works out and I am movin on up in a few months.

Good Luck Adam! It sounds like you've impressed the right people. If you get this and we ever end up getting to a Giants game, you're buying the beer!
