Question about the radio on the Vibe 2009 and OnStar

Post by Eloi »

Hello,I'm still waiting to receive my new Vibe 2009 (should be next week). However, I'd like to know if I'll lose the OnStar features if I decide to remove the original radio/CD unit and install another one instead (like a Pioneer or a Sony, which would have a USB port for example). Does OnStar is connected to the radio? Can it work without the "original" system? Thanks.

To a degree, yes, you will affect it. At a minimum you will lose the digit displays that onstar puts out when you dial out or it is responding to a voice command. As to whether it directly connects through the radio, the answer is possibly. I'm pretty sure in the G6 a lot of those features are routed through the head unit, but the vibe is different.I suspect there might be bypass kits, however, that allow you to retain functionality while giving the ability to connect an aftermarket unit.
YES!I still visit GenVibe periodically. I have not forgotten about my "original" family over here!
