Add the Moon & Tunes sub enclosure?

Post by skylinedrifter »

My 03 had the standard radio/ speakers. At the moment I have a small hatchback box but I am tired of having to move it all over the place whenver I want to put my seats down.So I was wondering....Can I buy the Moon & Tunes piece for the bed of the car and put my own speaker in it's place and would it sound alright? I don't need anything heavy-duty. Only want something to round out the lows.If this is possible, does anyone have the part number(s) I'd need?

If yo uwant real true sub bass I would suggest tring to fabricate one out of fiberglass, on the passanger side rear piece. Or you could always do something like I have. Fiberglass isn't hard to work with and that route would probably save you some money. You could also talk to Subliminalwind he might be able to throw ya something together. That will probably still be cheaper then buying the factory pannel.Aron

Well, above all else what I want is high fidelity sound. We just leased an 08 Charger and it came with a completely kick-(removed) stock stereo. I have a fine head and now I need speakers to match. What matters most to me is quality of sound. It doesn't need to boom or rumble from down the block. It doesn't need to deafen me or anyone within a 50 foot radius. It just needs to have a solid, high-quality sound. That is why I figured that the built-in solution wouldn't be a bad way to go.Maybe I should find a Moon & Tunes setup and see how it sounds to see if that is the sort of sound I am shooting for?

it would fit but you'd need the rear panel on the passanger side to accomedate it..plus wiring too

We've discussed it in the past...IIRC, it IS doable, but is a tad pricey...

Going this route you would be able to have much more dynamic sub responce and you will most likly save some money in the end. Just my opinion though.Aron

I never really paid attention to this before but the factory sub on the moonand tune package is just a little 6incher? Wouldn't think it would put out more than one of the 6 1/2 in one of the doors then. I would think just one 10 or so would be good and add enough bass for what you are lookign for.I would liek to see a vibe with 4 or so 15's in it though, but doubt it will happen : )

If you can find the factory side panel from a Vibe with the Moon & Tunes I can build a custom fiberglass enclosure to fit behind it, holding up to a 10" shallow mount sub.Check the link in my signature for pictures of that. The Moon & Tunes sounds really good for a factory installed system, but as far as bass goes, it doesn't have a ton of thump. Enough for a well rounded sound though.

Dude! That's awesome!. If I can't get one of the factory side-panels, though, could you use my existing side panel to make a mold that would accept a standard 10" rockford punch?

Yes I could make you a fiberglass box that fits to your side panel. It would probably mount to the factory cargo hook locations. The only thing is that I would need to take your interior panel for about a week to do so. That way I could mold it to fit. If your serious about it shoot me an email at Truckin1999@aol.com and we'll figure something out.

Hey guys,I literally just joined this forum today, and I bought my vibe yesterday, I was looking into something similar to what you were talking about as well. My 2004 is a base package and I'm looking to bump up my sound without loosing cargo space to a sub box. I camp, hike and fish entirely too much, that space will be nice to have. Excuse my lack of knowledge and Vibe experience to date. I look forward to updating it a bit. It's and 04 with 38,000 babied miles on it so it's probably got more then a little miles left in her.Just wondering if this worked out? If maybe there was someone that might be able to do that for me as well if it did work out? That panel is still expensive, and I don't even know if an 05 panel would fit my 04..Thanks for your help.

Before I started my fiberglass package, I have been using a banana plug outlet that I thought of. The amp is under the rear deck, and the plug is on the cover for the strut tower. It makes it super easy to just disconnect the sub and remove it. The diamonds all around make up for it when it's gone anyway. The plug setup will run you about $10, $5 for a home theater outlet, and $5.00 for 2 banana plugs for your speaker wire.I upgraded those plugs to the nice gold coated metal ones though. The red plastic one broke when the sub smooshed against it. I have the box sitting very close to the wall with a 16lb 12" aluminum piston in it (so it's heavy).

Serj22,That's a pretty sweet little quick fix for the moment. I like it, keeps the space useful if needed. Any possibility you could show me how you have the amp mounted as well? Like I said I just got my Vibe and I'm looking for ideas and right now I'm swimming in them. But I'm also married and trying not to suddenly drop a ton of money into this, its more of a planned project. The fiberglass thing would be a permanent fix. We hike, camp, I fish, and travel a lot so I want to keep this thing useful, but give myself some nice sound with a little extra bump as well. We also plan on having kids in the near future so keeping this thing low key and useful is going to be a must. Wow that was long sorry. lol
