Front Page Suggestion

Post by sloth »

If the front page isn't ever going to be updated, I think it would be beneficial for the whole site to just do a server side redirect to the forums. That way people will get put right where the current info is and skip the out dated stuff on the front.

If they see that, they probably won't delve much further... and they'll miss all the fun!

Well guys, there are plans for the front page. These things take time and time is at a premium in the case of those responsible for the content updates. It will happen soon, but probably not tomorrow. Thanks for the ideas and concern. I may be speaking out of turn, but I don't think we'll be turning the site into a "forum only" affair any time soon.

This is an excellent site, and I am glad that I did explore further than the front page. The forums rock!

You kids! Alright guys. Until we hear from Nsimkins, anything I say would just be speculation and we all know where that gets us. I'm sure he'll fill us in.

That's ok, we'll wait patiently until the next SEMA show for the update.

I clicked around and didn't specifically see the forums link.Later that week I was googleing stuff about the vibe and got a link into the forums. It's an amazing forum, nice galleries, but the rest of the content is old and can deter potential visitors. Although I do appreciate the single ad in the upper right corner - thanks for not plastering the heck out of the site with them!

You can modify some configs and let them in, but when the crawler hits - bam... your db server gets slammed. Then again - yes, it's the way most people find this slick Vibe hangout!

BUMP!!!! I think that we should have a thread that people can post pics for the front page to replace the old banner, and it can be voted on by the members in a poll, but this is just a thought.Okay, who's with me?Where's Joatmon?

I personally support the original suggestion to have the server automatically redirect to the forums. I think attempting to maintain info in any other part of the site has become tedious, difficult, and downright pointless. Anything that can be found on those pages can be found in the forums.Look at my other home, http://www.g6performance.com.There is no main site - it pretty much has bare-bones info, and then dumps you right into the forums.

I & others have suggested this in other threads. Nick always promised that updates were coming...Quote, originally posted by ragingfish »I think attempting to maintain info in any other part of the site has become tedious, difficult, and downright pointless.I agree with RF here. The only thing that's really relevant on the front page is VOTM & the chat link. All of the articles are outdated and could have links made within the forums to preserve them for newer members. I want to thank Nick and the everyone else for this great site, but I, like other members feel something needs to be done with the front page. Ironically the getting rid of the front page would be an "update" in itself...

Well maybe if you looked you'd see that it has been (at least a bit of it). Might try refreshing your browser.

I was a wicked (removed) on that one, wasn't I? Of course looking at the date of that thread, I think I know why. Anyway folks, the reality of it is that the front page isn't the meat of this site and VERY few people, if any ever mention it. Honestly, I forget it even exists because all that really matters to me is the forums. That's where the people are and that's what this site exists for. Can we all agree on that much?

I was just being a dork... bringing up old wounds....I like the main page for the links to the VOTM... it's kind of cool to see them all there, but it hasn't been updated since 06.04.2006 14:00 EDTIt's really no big deal, I know where to go...
