When I purchased my first Vibe, an '06, a FWD model, I rotated the tires every 5,000 miles and they still wore out in 20,000 miles. I've talked to many Vibe owners and the Honeywell fleet manager that had hundreds of AWD Vibes and they all had the same problem, both FWD and AWD.I talked to the Goodyear dealer and he said they are not cheap tires, but sport tires that are soft rubber for gripping and that's why they wear out. When I traded in my '06 Vibe last week, it had a fairly new set of Michelin's 80,000 mile tires on it. I would have put them on my new '09, but it has 17" tires with chrome wheels on it and they wouldn't fit. I imagine I'm going to be replacing these in 20,000 miles.Has everyone in this group had the same problems with the Goodyears that come on the Vibe?

My Goodyears were replaced at 18,000 miles. The dealer you spoke with is correct to a point. It is a softer compound but it's also less rubber. An OEM tire sold in bulk to auto makers is made with less material than a retail tire. If you bought the Goodyears as replacements; they would last longer than OEMs.
The goodyears are terrible but be happy you didn't get the Continentals they used to come with. They were worse. You could have had the tires changed as a bargaining chip when making the deal on your new car. Most dealers will do it. A set of tires is worth less than $200.00 to a dealer.
i just clocked 16k on my vibe and i will be lucky to see 20k out of these tires. Its a common problem with this car for some reason.I am currently shopping tires to replace the set i have now.i have rotated them every oil change which is 5000milesI have checked the tire pressure every month but i still have had wear problems

Mine were half bald by the time they hit 5,000miles. Alignment was perfect, had them replaced under warranty and sold them immediately before they fell apart.
I got 28k out of the goodyears on my '03 AWD. I probably could have gotten a bit more, but winter was approaching and I didn't want to risk it. The OEM tires pretty much suck. The manufacturers should realize they are giving themselves a bad rap by selling these to the auto manufacturers... That said, I didn't replace them with Goodyear Eagles after the original set wore out so fast.... they were eliminated from consideration.

Wow! I got over 70,000 miles out of my OEM Goodyear Eagle RS-A tires. Probably could have gotten more with proper rotations (I'm really bad when it comes to that.) My Vibe's an '04 Base bought new in Sept. '04. I've been riding on Goodyear Triple Treads since fall '05. Actually I'm on my third set of Trips...I drive and drive and drive...284,000+ miles on my Vibe so far.
yeah my goodyears died at 20k or less. i replaced em with nitto neo-gens. i've got over 22k miles on these, and they've still got life left. if i would've done the rotations on time, instead of whenever i was close to the tire store with nothing to do, they'd have a lot more life left. i'm very happy with these tires, and i'll probably get the same tires when replacement time comes

I just got a bunch of estimates and I'm trading in my OEM Goodyears on a set of Goodyear TripleTreads, which have an 80,000 mile warranty. I have to pay $450. difference. Most places I checked didn't even want to trade in the OEM, but the place I'm dealing with is giving me $200. for them.

Rotated every 5,000 miles, pressure checked every week. I believe that's the same set of Yokohama's I'm getting on Friday.
If you go to Discount Tire they will price match Tireracks.com's price as shipped to your zip code. Tire rack wanted $99 each, and $45 to ship the tires to my area code. So instead of paying $132 a tire it was 110 a tire. Btw, I'm very happy with the Avid's

Keep in mind that mine are 215/50X17" tires. They cost more than the 16" tires. There is a rebate on the Triple Treds and I got out of Discount Tire for $456. because they gave me $200. for my RSL's, plus there is the lifetime free rotation and balancing and a 2 year free replacement warranty and the 80,000 mile tire warranty. Not everyone will take trade in's on a 17" tire, as it could sit on their shelves for a while, but Discount Tire will get rid of the quick because of their volume and they have hundreds of other stores they can send them to.

I have the opposite problem - my tires won't wear out. I have the Eagle RSA's, 33k on them and they still have 50% of the freakin' tread left. Their longevity may be due to the fact that I live in FL - the roads here are a lot kinder to tires. Rotate them every 8-10k. Other than that, they're the worst tires I've ever owned. Wet and dry handling absolutely sucks.
I just replaced the RSA's with the Triple Treds and I can tell you there is no difference in road noise, neither is quiet, but the car isn't a Cadillac either. It was raining out and you can tell the difference in handling (much better) right away.
