Skybus ceases operations

Post by jake75 »

The Columbus, OH airline with the $10 fares - Skybus - ceased operations effective today. The really bad part is that even after they knew they were ceasing operations, passengers on yesterday's flights were not told - so these passengers got to their destination - but their return tickets are useless. They will have to pay the walk-up fare at another airline. One pilot on an evening flight told the passengers he could not in good conscious not inform them that there would be no return flights and held the plane for 20 minutes to let any passengers get off that wanted to do so. [Wonder where their checked luggage is?] I suspect that added to all of the other recent airline horror stories this will outrage Congress and we will be seeing remedial legislation.

I was in HI last week when Aloha shut down, attending a meeting at Ko Olina. Big news for the state, and a real mess for travelers. I understand inter-island fares will probably increase now.

They already went up, Jim. The news did a story about the fares-depending on peak/off peak flight times, it's almost $100 ONE way! They said that superferry was the cheapest way to go @ $39 one way. I feel for every one of those employees...some of which husbands and wives both worked for the airline or have a baby on the way and suddenly have no medical. Ko Olina is nice, isn't it? I haven't been in the resort itself, but we sometimes go to the lagoons.

I was at the Ihilani. Walked along the lagoons down to the marina and back, weather was wonderful. Are there any good body surfing beaches nearby?
