i just replaced my spark plugs yesterday. 57000 on the car but only 54000 on motor. when i removed the far left ignition coil i noticed the end had rusty color on it. as continued to the right it got less and less and the far right one was fine. it was the same for the plugs themselves. the white porcelain or ceramic part had rust on it also.anyone know bout this i still have the old plugs if someone needs picsby the way i went with the bosch platnium/iradium. im partial to bosch. they seem to be working great ( only put about 15 miles on the so far. i have already noticed my cold idle is smoother and cold driving is smoother too.
Used motor? A lot of times they get some water on top when they are being stored or shipped, it gets down into the spark plug tubes and causes some rusty looking stuff. Did you use antiseize when you installed the plugs? And honestly, Bosch's don't work all that well in Toyotas. You need to get NGK or Nippondensos.

I would consider pulling the coils and applying some dielectric grease to the plug bodies and connections.. I to have herd bad things about Bosch, my mechanic friend said he wouldn't put bosch in a enemies car.. my .02$
I say it is burned rubber or plastics starting to degrade or it was just the metal on the tip of the plug that gets sandwiched by the coil end. When I changed my plugs I do not remember if the coil ends can be replaced. I know on my Cavalier and Olds Calias with 2.4L's the coil ends were plastic and could be replaced since the older they get they start to crack and the rubbeer degrades. If it was not on the firing end, do not worry but did you use any Die-electric grease on the plug and coil ends?I would not run Bosch; get NGK what the engine was made to run on...You also would have noticed what you are noticing with new plugs in general and not the Bosch since the plugs do not last 100,000 miles before their performance diminishes, mis-fire CELs can occur as well before 100,000 miles like some manf recommend as the change interval ...I know many people that have used Bosch in their Corvettes and old VW's and techs said get them out of there.
Wouldn't put anything with Denso name on it within 50 feet of my car. Very bad previous experience.NGK ok but not worth the premium price.best bang for your buck copper core Autolite.

I ran Bosch in my Sebring and the tech told me to get them out, too. I was having problems with mis-fires and stalling at idle. He was right. Of course after that I had to replace a plug wire when I suddenly found myself with a 3 cylinder engine.. but that wasn't the plugs' fault.
Use Irridium tipped plugs in the Vibe. Re rust color ... without a photo, It sounds normal.Black oily, or sooty - you have a problem.Wet fuel soaked - same, a problem. For street use, you're unlikely to see the other types of problems unless you have the wrong plug.Your service manager would (happily?) tell you at a glance what he thinks it is if you walked in with one.
