new owner 2004 base

well just got back from the dealershippicked up a 2004 grey vibe.only 30,000 kms!!!nice site, and im sure ppl on here wont be a holes like the honduh sites i formerly a member of.rip honda civic.

Welcome,You have excellent taste in cars.My last car was a Honda Civic too and now I have a 2004 Vibe base like yours. I've had the Vibe for 2 years and really enjoy it. 2004 Tips: Get the Owner's manual (my Vibe did not have one). Make sure your battery is tested and the water pump.Since I’ve started reading this Vibe site in January I have been inspired to do the following but my Vibe has more miles (62,000) than your modest (30,000) lucky you.:1.Discovered I had a FILTHY cabin air filter and replaced it with one from NAPA by following a GenVibe tutorial.2.Downloaded a 2004 Owner’s manual and changed the way I wear my seatbelt and adjusted the headrest to increase safety.3.Had my wimpy battery tested and after it flunked the test – it was replaced.4.Since the car now has 62.000 miles and the owner’s manual had a long list of maintenance to do at 60K-oops slacker driver. I went to a trusted mechanic and had it checked from bumper to bumper and he found the water pump needed to be replaced, thermostat, belt, heater hoses and radiator hoses and a new radiator cap. 5. Then a special shop flushed the automatic transaxle fluid, and cooling system and that made a HUGE IMPROVEMENT. I’m sure I’ve made a good investment and prevented problems since I hope to drive this to 200K!! Now my Vibe purrs.6.Stereo: My CD player has never worked so I’ve been limited to radio! Since I invested $$ on #4 above I had to be thrifty so I followed someone’s advice and found a salvaged Vibe stereo at LKQ on Ebay from a 2005 Vibe on clearance for $27.00 + $15 shipping !! We installed it and it works great.

hey thanks for the warm welcomes.thanks bluerdge for all the advice.im gonna get the dealer to look at the batt. and water pump b4 i take possesion.and its 30,000kilometers, thats like 16,000miles

well i took delivery of the vibe.i checked out the fluids to make sure everything was topped up.one concern i had was the coolant overflow tank was empty, even had cobwebs on the spout under the cap. plus while the engine was at operating temp (fan kicking on) i could smell coolant, that sweet smell.any suggestions on what to do? i know from previous poster that the water pump likes to go on these engines.i plan on bringing it back to the dealer and have them look at it.

I would take it back to the dealer just to be on the safe side. It sounds like they may have missed something during the Pre-delivery Inspection.

If you even think it is running warm SHUT IT DOWN and have it towed.I ruined my piston rings in an 86 civic(began burning oil), and threw a rod bearing in a 4 runner driving them hot.Have you had a mechanic check it out yet?Oh and congrats I got my 05 last week, and like it a little more every minute I own it.

Welcome. Wow, an '04 with 16K miles. This is the best forum I have found. You'll be glad you came on board (and most importantly, got a Vibe).
asburydan - moved from Vibe to 5th Mustang.

temp is ok, did some reading on here, and looks like this engine likes to sip a teeny tiny coolant. open loop cooling system.so it looks like prev. owner never checked the coolant.i tore the dealership a new one , for not completing the pre delivery inspection. so it back at the dealer for a top up and pressure test.love this site , so many concise instructions on DIYs.1rst step, remove dealer badges and dealer plate moulding.2nd . cabin filter w/ furnace filter. wow what room in the engine bay!!. oil changes look like a breeze.

well brought it back to the dealer.they topped up the coolant.did a pressure test, no leaks were found.
