Does anyone know the part number for the roof rack cross bars?I went to the dealership a few days ago and the guy at the parts counter could not figure it out. He kept showing me a picture of a bike rack. I'm looking for the cross bars that fit BETWEEN the side rails, not above them.Charles

VibetasticI'm in the same situation as you were. The dealers are clueless and I'm tired of looking on the web. I know this is an old posting so I most likely won't get a response. Anyway- I'm looking for the ones (crossbars) that go between the side rails also. Any tips out there on where I can find them? rayban06
The dealers are clueless because that style of crossbar was discontinued so it doesn't show up in their lists and they can't order it. It's always possible that some dealer has an old set still in stock, but otherwise your best bet is to look for a set on Craigslist or eBay or similar sites. Currently there are at least two sets being offered on eBay:http://search.ebay.com/search/...gory0=Note that quite a few (incl. myself) prefer the newer "Utility Bars" that sit above the rails. Those can be quickly installed/removed and take standard accessories made for Thule-style bars. But the older style is more aerodynamic and might be preferred if you don't need the accessories and want to leave the bars in place semi-permanently.
prathman,Thanks for the tip. I'll check it out. Also have you had the opportunity to compare the wind noise on both. I assume the type I'm looking for will be quieter.

I assume the type I'm looking for will be quieter. That would be my assumption as well, but I haven't had occasion to make a direct comparison. The later, rectangular cross-section, style does make quite a bit of noise. OTOH, we hardly ever have ours installed except when actually carrying boats, furniture, or other cargo on top - and in that case most of the noise is coming from the wind on the cargo. Thule makes an optional fairing to reduce the wind noise of the bars themselves but I haven't used that.I do remember some early car tests that indicated more wind noise in the original Vibe than in the Matrix and this was presumably due to the original style crossbars. So those also add some noise, and they're harder to remove & install so you're likely to leave them in place even when not carrying things.
rail - 88970917rail ends - 88969755plus bolts and stuff.Have your parts guy look at group 12.815 for a 2003/04 model.- wasn't available in later years.also don't be shocked if the parts are no longer available.Re wind noise ... My 2006 with the square top-mounting cross bars and ski rack combined didn't make any noise. If there is any wind noise it's marginal. Also don't be surprised if you find all of the 03-06 accessories are no longer available either. You may need to go for aftermarket cross-rails . That was my experience looking for a bike rack.
Wow! This IS an old post.I gave up trying to get the factory roof rack bars and went with a Yakima set. I like 'em, but there is some wind noise at high speeds. (75 mph and up)

I would take a quote for a wind deflector thule please that would work with the factory cross bars that look to be made by thule. What size would be the best? as i see they come in different lenghts.
No. I don't. The noise really isn't that bad.I driven some REALLY noisy rides in the past including a Baja Bug and a Corvair.A little wind noise is no problem.

Howdy all,First post here. New owner of a 2003 Vibe that looks like it has been kept in pretty nice shape. I've been hunting around the forums, and saw the post on removing the corssbars (here) as we use our Yakima equipped Subaru for all of the gear hauling. I would be willing to sell them. Is there interest in used crossbars?--Bill
I have just purchased a 2003 Vibe from out of state and listed are "roof rails". I would be VERY interested in cross bars. Anyone have some that will fit a 2003?

Anyone have some that will fit a 2003?Do you have the car yet? The '03s came with the cross bars standard so it may have them already unless removed by a previous owner. Otherwise check with the poster directly above you. Also see the discussion earlier in this thread on the pros and cons of the original style vs. the current 'GM Utility Bar" style. Either type will fit your car.

Dang I am looking for some myself, I just got an 05.I wonder if I would do better getting the Thule, or if I can score a set of cheap ones off of an older model.
Lets revive this post shall we? I just took a look at Toyota's accessories webpage for the '09 Matrix and really like the Bike carrying kit does anyone know if the rooflines of both cars are geometrically the same or do you know of a better all in one kit for the Vibe/Matrix?
I am selling a THULE bar setup for 2003-2008 Pontiac Vibe. The bars are listed at http://www.geartrade.com/item/58008Selling price is $100I put a lot of research into the roof rack options for my Vibe, and this is definitely the best setup for an outdoorsman who really wants to put bikes/skis/cargo on top.
Yes I still have them. They are the GM cross bars with key and lock on both bars. Brand new never used.Where are you located? I am on the SF Peninsula.
There is a very little known fact about the roof rack crossbars. I found out something VERY INTERESTING. The roof rack crossbars for Pontiac Vibes from 2003 all the way to 2008 are all the SAME!I just bought my crossbars from a 2003 Vibe in almost NEW condition on EBAY for only 40 dollars. I installed them on my 2008 vibe and they fit PERFECTLY. Installing them on my 2008 Vibe was a breeze. Just pop off the black plastic caps at the end of the side rails towards the back located above the trunk hatch and slip the crossbars into the side rails. Then replace the caps by popping them back on. After sliding the crossbars into the side rails you will have to lift the crossbars slightly to get them over the antenna base mount and I had no trouble whatsoever. Installation time was 10 minutes. Hope that this helps.
