What's up with a coilover kit?

Post by yank dini »

Im starting to get serious about lowering my Vibe by Mid Summer but I cant seem to find a good coilover for it. I really dont want to do springs only cause I dont want my shocks/struts to go too soon.Any news on a coilover kit yet.

The only two I know of that include new struts are tein and TRD. They both are over $1000. good luck.

You are looking to buy Tein, TRD, or JIC coilovers. Tein and JIC both have their expensive kits as well as their basic kits for the Matrix/Vibe. The basic kit will include strut/shocks with adjustable springs (not damping on the shocks itself). Their expensive kits include strut/shocks that are dampable as well as adjustable springs. The TRD coilovers are merely adjustable springs on not adjustable shocks. Tein: $1,250. TRD: $1,400. JIC: $2,000.The $2,000 JIC coilover includes the upper pillow mount which isn't really necessary for everyday driving. If you want to autocross, pillow mounts might be good. Raamaudio over at Matrixowners.com go the Tein coilovers and used some upper pillow mounts from a Celiga GT or GTS and modified them to fit.Either way you look at it, it is expensive. I do think that the expensive upfront cost will be better in the long run rather than installing springs and new shocks/struts at different times.KYB is supposedly going to release some shocks in the Fall. I was thinking about getting coil over but in this price range, I'll go with lower spring. Coil over are little off my budget.

No problem. Btw, when you are referring to: just to be safe... what exactly are you talking about? Retaining warranty for your suspension?I'm just saying because for the TRD coilovers, you really are paying for the TRD label. Something similiar to the TRD coilovers are way less than $1,000 for other vehicles. If you can get the TRD coilovers on ebay (which have been selling for like $800) then you might be getting a sweet deal. Sellinparts is the guy on Ebay that is a Toyota dealer selling TRD parts dirt cheap (incase you didn't know).-Slink

But as long as I have a TRD part of this nature for a Toyota platform. I will have more piece of mind

I understand that. I'm sure you also know that you must have the TRD part installed by the a dealer in order for the warranty to automatically transfer over. If you install it yourself, it is just like any other aftermarket part - a regular 1 year warranty on the part itself.-Slink

of course.....I sure wasn't going to do it myself. Besides the Toyota and Pontiac dealerships are right next to each other and it is just a walk away from my house.

Well Toyota turned me away. Not sure if I should try another dealership but Im leaning more toward Belle Tire right now and just settle for some Eibach springs

I decided to go with Belle Tire. I have a Eibach Pro-Kit being shipped and should be here in a few days. It's gonna cost me $500.00 in which I have already paid $100.00 They should be on the car in about 5-7 days. And yes I will take pics. Buy then I can start to take pics now that some of my mods are just about done.......
