I was very sad to see this.http://www.wlwt.com/slideshow/....html

LindaI don't know, it can be pretty easy to get surprised by water. I got caught in some pretty high water years ago in my S-10 Blazer. Did not stall but the cold water hitting the parking light bulbs cracked them. It was dark, and it happened before I knew it. And it was a road I was very familiar with and would never have guess would have that problem.

I've also heard that floodwaters can sometimes rise dramatically in just minutes. That Vibe owner may have driven down that road 10-15 minutes earlier and it was fine, and on his return trip got stuck.

Just curious ... What would cause this Vibe to stall? The water level doesn't seem to be above the bumper, so it appears the air intake didn't get water or the electronics didn't get soaked. The tailpipe is under water, so would that cause the Vibe to stall? Any ideas, especially from those that had it happen to them?

Any ideas, especially from those that had it happen to them?Well part of what can happen is the drive belt slings water all into the engine compartment. And once the belt is submerged, it does not grab thus the engine will be running on its own without power anything and not for long. The alternator could also get all wet and cause check engine lights to come on. Throw all of this together and the engine can just shut down. The computers and connections under the hood are water tight but some or the part going to them are not. If the car actually lifts off the ground from the water this too will confuse the computer not shut it down but then if the water has picked up the vehicle, you got another issue on your hands! Not to mention if you are not giving the engine enough gas which would cause the exhaust pipe to push the water out of it, water would then fill the exhaust and chock the engine. If the air intake takes water in, the engine will shut off immediately too.In short, all kinds of stuff can happen. I have never done this and never will try to cross water like that!
yes very true.and i have never or am goin to ever try to cross water THAT high ever. maybe a puddle or two now if i had a lifted truck thats a different story
