Need help with installing a stereo in my Vibe

Post by Kamicowzi »

Hey all,I am currently deployed to Iraq and I plan on installing a new stereo set up in my 2006 Vibe when I get home in 2 weeks. I haven't had much time with my car to learn the ins and outs of the stereo due to the deployment, but I know I have a monsoon sound system (no moon roof though).I have a general idea of what I am going to switch out...all the interior speakers, new head unit, and a subwoofer. I was just hoping I could get some advice from you guys as far as installtion and any specifics on what I should use.And one other question, I know that in the back hatch area I have that little sub off to the right side...would it possible to use Kickers 6.5" shallow mount (2 13/16" deep) sub back there....I already plan on using a L5 10" so i think it would it be nice to swap out that little sub back there as well. Thanks a lot for the help!

Welcome and you came to the right place to get help. Just about everything stereo-wise has been done and is documented here. Learn to maximize genvibe's search feature. Here are three key threads and do your self a favor and read the entire thread. (NOTE TO GENVIBE GODS, please add a subsection to the DIY FAQ to cover off stereo questions.Speaker Removalhttp://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=785Your can salvage the rear speakers but the front will be gutted. They are crap anyway so go nuts. There are many choices out there but the depth of the speaker is crutial on the front doors or else they will hit the glass.Head Unit Installationhttp://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=30794Easy part of the project and I add a step where I just swing the bezel onto the dash on a cloth so as to not scratch the dash. Choice of head unit is up to you but consider one with an AUX IN for an MP3 player.Wiring Harness Pin Outhttp://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=6799You may need this if you don't get a harness adaptor. Use the seach to find out more info.Power Antennahttp://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=20966Also, the antenna needs power from the harness. Get home safe.A

Sublime, I read that tutorial and it is awesome...excellent job on it.One of my main questions though, is how will the monsoon system effect the wiring of new door speakers?

I had it there sublimewind but I did not name it HU ands I'll change that. It's an excellent write up and should be added to the DIY section.

If you are, it won't affect them at all.If you're using existing wiring, It will still use the monsoon amp. This can be bypassed if you're not afraid to cut some stock wiring, or you can use a line input adapter. Or what I did and turned the gain down on my head unit, although I don't know if that was the ideal solution.

Easiest route and it opens up room if you decided to install an aftermarket amp of your own (search out Alpine PDX and look at their size)
