What's everyone's favorite tire for the Vibe?

Post by W2ZXN »

I'm just really curious and would like to get some imput on tire choices for all types of weather for Vibe tires.I, myself have the stock 16" rims and I recently purchased Pirelli P4 All-Seasons, which are horrible. They're not good in the snow at all, they're not all that great on any wet pavement basically and to top it off, contrary to what I have read on user-review sites, they are extremely loud! Anyway, I'm ranting... So what does everyone else like?

I don't have my vibe yet, but I've had some good luck with Goodyear Tripletreads. They last a fairly long time and they are decent for all different conditions. Another tire that I didn't mind was the Kumho ASX tires. They were great in rain and dry pavement.

I use a Toyo all-season and so for it's been great! Gets me up the mountain in the snow, nice and quiet.

Nitto NeoGen for summer.Dunlop SP Wintersport 3D for winter. In a northern climate , you need winter and summer tires, all seasons just don't do it.

Andy,Fellow ham K2QO here. Your QRZ profile is cool.My 2005 Vibe AWD with 36K miles runs on the factory tires with Al wheels from TireRack for summer. For winter I run Semperit Ice Grip II on the stock steelies. The factory Goodyear RS-A's absolutely suck in snow or ice and working in Buffalo an living in Clarence makes dedicated snow tires very worthwhile. Next month I'll be buying new summer tires as my GYs are down to an nice even 3/32. What to buy, hmmmm........ Tire Rack has nice user survey data. Also, I'll likely buy a 2009 Vibe later this year to replace a 1999 Buick Regal GSE. That too will have winter tires. Semperits are hard to find so Blizzak WS-60s may be the winner.Good luck,Mark K2QO

I ran studdless winter grip tires in the winter on the stock 16" rims and kumho tires on aftermarket ICON 17" rims. the winter tires were good but not great in winter and the kumho tires were awesome on everything but snow lol. the poor Vibe couldn't get out of its own way with snow and kumho summer tires. the rubber compound was to hard.

I am maybe halfway through my third set of Goodyear TripleTreads. NOT because they suck, but because I have 279,000+ miles on my '04. Not to mention, I'm too aggressive with my turns and cornering and don't rotate as often as I should.

Welcome from another NY'er, I'm surprised at how you feel about the Pirelli's. I have them on my 06 Vibe and I love them. They're great on wet pavement and fairly quiet. I'm wondering if you're noise issue is because of the stock rims. I'm running 16" Aluminum wheels and the tires are quiet. I would agree with you on the snow traction, OK at best. We don't get nearly as much snow downstate as you do in Verona. I grew up in Rome and learned that snow tires are necessary, not an option. Try Blizzaks or Goodyears Ultra Grip Ice next winter.

wheel i have only replaced my crappy contis that came on the car when i got it, with Kuhmos ASX and have lasted a really long time and i still happy with them, and a while back had to replace a left rear tire due to a previous puncture repair, with a Braum (sp?) really like the tread pattern on the Braum.

Great replies GEN-VIBers!BTW, I'm sorry about posting here instead of tire forum, color me new! And to Mark K2QO, I wonder if you might be able to hit any of the rochester repeaters? Try as I may, I cannot help but hit the 145.11 out there in Rochester and sometimes the 146.655 (although it's usually while I'm trying to access the 655 that's about 45 miles north east of my QTH.Thanks all & 73,Andy W2ZXN

Best tires I have ever purchased: General Exclaim UHP. They stick to the road perfectly (performance tread though not all season).

Not many repairs outside of regular maintenance. Replaced the HVAC blower motor in Jan. 08, the OEM battery in Dec. 07, and the radiator was replaced (accident-hit a deer) in June 07. A new cat converter goes in this weekend, my first CEL, which came on this past Sunday.

Inflated ones that turn. Ours came with 17" Bridgestone Potenzas, and we replaced with the same last fall. No complaints, but I can't say I'm that picky or really have ever noticed a difference between tires.

When the time comes I'm looking at using Kumho Solus. I've not used this tire yet, but I've heard good things about it. It would be an upgrade for the Dunlops currently on it, in all measures, including price. I believe this is the Touring version, as I don't need high performance sport tires.

I was gonna get the Assurance tires from Goodyear, which I think everyone here is calling Triple Tred. But they were too $$$ for me. I went with the Kumho Ecsta ASX. Great looking tire, performs very well over the broad ranger. Quiet ride, smooth turning, and very predictable which is a plus. I have yet to hydroplane with these shoes on, even doing 65-70 through puddles on the highway.I have probably about 10k on them so far, very little sign of wear, just rotated at the 6k mark. I'll be looking for 40-50k out of them at least.

For Merzbow: Anything else you could comment on the General Exclaim UHP tires you bought?... like noise levels, how many miles driven so far, size and which wheel you use... aftermarket or OEM? Im thinking about buying a set. GY TripleTreds: Tried them, loved them for about 6000 miles and then flat spotted and became very noisy. Replaced 2 when damaged and the same thing happened to these. They were rotated every 4k mi. and the first set was even rebalanced, just to make sure, but balance found to be good. They are on wife's car and are gently driven. Can't wait to ditch 'em (not the wife... the tires!).Never found an 'all season' that did a good job in snow. They are usually fine for 3 seasons and warm weather wet conditions... but don't expect much from then in snow or icy going. Winter driving capability differences between an 'all season' and a real snow tire is Large.

I replaced my stock Goodyear RSA"s with Kelly Navagtor Gold 12K miles ago. I found them to be better in the snow. Kelly-Sprinfield is owned by Goodyear.

I replaced my rims with AR rims and upgraded to michelin pilots. The handling is amazing. I have pretty much used them up and will be replacing them soon. I will get the 60K they said I would. They WERE a little noisy, and I would appreciate some feed back about other options. They handle wonderfully. I can't give that up. I also have had strange issues with mysterious air leaks on two of the tires/rims. Any thoughts on that???

heartfire... i have nitto neo-gen tires, and LOVE them. they're very quiet, responsive, and handle great. i've put 22,000 miles on em and they've still got some life in em. i've only rotated them twice, but if i would've done it regularly, they'd have more life. i'm also pretty aggressive with my turns a lot of the time. they cost me about $465 installed at discount/america's tire by doing a price match with a store from l.a.i'm not sure how the weather will be where you're moving, but if you need to swap your wheels during the winter, i'd recommend these

They are just peachy tires as far as I'm concerned...
