Crossover (Stock Sub)

Post by kunkstyle »

Has anyone with the m/t package with the stock sub tried installing a crossover to cut off the higher frequencies? I like having it back there, but at the moment it's got a boatload of mid-range coming out of it. I don't really want to put an aftermarket sub/amp in there (space issues) unless I can fit something directly in the stock enclosure.Anybody taken the sub out? Would there be any power for a crossover? Or would it require a second power cable to be run to the back?

I was just thinking about this the other day. My old car I had put in a system with an AMP that had one built in. It would be nice to know if there are any that could fit right into the normal enclosure.

Bump. I was wondering would a crossover improve the sound with after market speakers / headunit too. New Speakers & tweeters are installed but I didn't know a good place to wire the crossovers.

About the only thing you can do for the stock sub would be to take the sub it'self out and install a choke or an coil... which is a passive component and sucks up a quite a bit of power..If you look at this pic... The coils are low pass components and the caps are high pass components, the resistors add "orders" to the components allowing for a steeper cut off... As far as the midrange speakers, you can add a cap to the line (bass blockers) but that is about it... This is why any stock system is VERY limited..

I have a 03 vibe with Moon & Tunes before the subs was installed. Is it possible to add one off the factory amp(im being cheap :D)

There's no direct output for it. The only way would be to splice off the rears and that would sound horrible. Also, there wouldn't be enough power off to stock amp to drive a sub, not to mention no built-in crossover. The sub that's being run off the Monsoon amp in the newer models probably shouldn't be called a sub...
