Just checked MPG

Post by asburydan »

Bought '05 with 34,500 miles in early December. Just got around to checking MPG on last tank of fuel. Came out to be 30.5 MPG for 338 miles. Driving included some highway time, but also to work, store, church, restaurants, etc. Looking forward to checking highway only soon, but for now and with higher and higher fuel prices, I am pleased. Car has auto trans, but I do try to stay under 3000 rpms.

He wasn't talking about shifting, he has an auto tranny. he was talking about maintaining 3000rpm or less when driving to save gas. There's a discussion somewhere on here about 3000rpm or less being the magic number for fuel economy.

Sometimes I do feel like a granny. I noticed today that I can accelerate to 60 quickly on my wife's Hyundai Azera and never get above 2700 rpm. If I accelerated quickly to 60 in the Vibe, I am not sure how high it would go.

Even in my MS3 I like to shift at 3k and ive been seeing some decent mileage for a turbo car. In my auto i could have it shift at 3k, you just need to no press the gas hard. yes its slow, yes you feel dumb but you do get good mileage

I have an 06 with an auto tranny.

Good fuel economy is all about babying the car and not being in a hurry. My fiancee's Prius ranges from 42 mpg to 53 mpg depending upon what kind of hurry she's in.When I have gotten my best mileage (over 40 mpg in a 2004 GT) it was due to me taking it easy, going 60-65 in a 75 in the right hand lane. There is a cost for being in a hurry and rushing around everywhere. It tends to cost me about 7-8 mpg (25 vs 32). Over the course of a tank (fillup around 10 gallons), that means it cost me about (70 miles at 25 mpg at $3.19 a gallon) $8.93 thanks to the hurrying. Can't do much if stuck in city traffic, but that's why I try hard to plan to take my time and take it easy on the trip. It usually doesn't cost me more than 10-15 mins.

It may go to 6500, I did let it roll a few feet before I punched it as I was leaving a toll booth and didn't want to draw too much attention. Isaaclud- props from an Eagles fan! I'm truly impressed. It was an awesome SB Win. I have to admit, I was rooting for the Eagles when they played NE in SB XXXIX.

i was getting ~28 but recently it has been a steady 26mpg, but i am usually shifting about 4-4500. i bet if i kept it closer to 3 my mpgs would go up. also i had bald tires up until a week ago so there was a lot of tire spining going on lol.
