automatic door locks- this time a 2006

Post by 2kg4u »

I read the thread on deactivating the auto lock/unlock for a 2005 Vibe (it contained an explanation cut from the owner's manual) and followed those instructions (turn key to 'on' 5 times, etc) but it did not work on my 2006. Also, I checked the owner's manual and can't find a section similar to the one quoted from the 2005 manual.I went to the website that contains that very weird process for reprogramming key fobs (which actually works very well) which also had a procedure for deactivating the auto lock/unlock. That didn't work either.Perhaps the setup is unique on the 2006. Has anyone ever been able to deactivate the auto lock/unlock on a 2006 Vibe? If so, how did you do it?Thanks.(Yes, I tried search)(Yes, I read the owner's manual)(Yes, I am old and feable of mind, so the answer might be right in front of my face, and I just can't see it)

hmm...wondering if the 2006 took on more "GM-ness" in terms of the wiring. might be more closesly tied to the databus system since you can now get onstar. What that would *theoretically* mean i think is there is no easy way to fix that short of reprogramming the BCM.My G6 has auto lock/unlock in it. You can disable the auto unlock, but the auto lock is factory set and cannot be turned off.

There was a post on this back in January, and it doesn't look like there was a good answer, other than a reference to the 2005 owner's manual. Someone in that thread commented on why the instruction was removed from the 2006 manual. Perhaps because the feature was removed. In searching, I found a brochure that states the auto door lock/unlock feature cannot be re-programmed with manual trans, which conversely means it can be with the automatic.Perhaps someone in the forum has worked on this, and can tell me if it is possible or not.

Don't know. There are no instructions in the 2007 Owner's Manual either. However the Pontiac website says programmable locks are available on the 2007.Could always try your dealer.

The dealer????? Surely you jest. The main reason I monitor this forum is to avoid going to the dealer. Plus, the dealer can only tell you the approved service procedure for doing something. The tech guys on this forum seem to always come up with a way to do the impossible.I'm half kidding because I do appreciate your input. The dealer may be my last resort, or I may just leave it programmed the way it is.

So what happens when you try this? Also, are you sure you followed the steps? Your original post mentions "5 times" but you don't do anything 5 times. The lock button is held for 5-6 seconds. Don't crank the engine just turn it to "ON". To change the mode, you'll have to remove the key and repeat for each mode change. Make sure you have the doors all closed when doing this! From MatrixOwners, it works on 2006 Matrixes so it should work on your Vibe.1) Car in park2) close all doors3) dome light switch set to "door"4) key in and turn to ON (do not start) - leave at ON5) immediately press and hold driver's door lock switch in LOCK for 5-6 seconds.6) Dome light flashes # times to indicate moderemove key & repeat 4-6 to change mode.

There were two procedures I tried. One was from the 2005 manual (which is the one you outlined), the other is from a site where there is information on how to reprogram key fobs. I tried the one you outlined, and the dome light didn't flash to signify it was in programming mode.I will try it again in case I was doing it wrong. Thanks for the input.

It works on my Vibe 2007, though in the manual there is no one word about it.It was from the factory set to mode 4 and I changed it to mode 3 so far.

There is no automaticdoor unlocking.Mode 2: No automatic door locking or unlocking.Mode 3: All doors and liftgate lock when the shift leveris moved out of PARK (P) with the ignition on and alldoors and liftgate closed. All doors and liftgateunlock when the ignition switch is turned from ON toACC or to LOCK. Mode 4 is the factory setting. No idea if this is applicable to the '03 models. It did work on our '06 even though it's not mentioned in our manual.

Oh, I suppose it won't apply to me since I'm a GT anyways... my doors don't lock on their own at all. I suppose that the computer can't tell if the car is in gear or neutral for the manual trans.

wow, that's cool. wish i had known about it when i had my '03!i just tested this on my '08. works like a charm. i'm now set to mode 3. mode 4 always annoyed us. we'd stop to pick someone up or drop someone off with the engine running, and the doors would be locked. that sucks when it's 30º below zero, or raining.

I am one of those that likes the automatic door lock feature - for security reasons. I remember reading here that the 03's could not be programmed to do that.

Adding that to my mod guide. Witch BTW, I am developing... if anyone had tips to easy programming mods like this PM me and I'll add them to the guide. (I will mention the original source of course.) I'm gonna give this one a try today in my '07.

I tried the steps outlined by GMJAP above (several times) and did not get any dome light flashes to confirm the current programmed mode. If anyone comes up with a method on the 03 PLEASE POST.

From what I've read in this thread your 07 should work by following the instructions above. Good Luck!

I just reprogrammed mine and my wife is going to love it. She always complains cuz she has to wait for me to turn the car off before she can get out. Now once I put it in park, it unlocks!
