Just thought I would toss a couple pics of my hatch area and P.C. Its not finished yet so dont critize to muchHere is a shot of my hatch, I just changed to the Elemental designs SQ10 a couple days agoHere is my DSP-6 Zapco processor I still need to move it over a bit to center it with the opening and build an enclosure for it, Likely out of fiberglas.Here is a pic of my monitor in the dash. It is an 8" tview monitor. I need to redo this monitor, somehow moisture got under the filler and caused cracking, its strange but little water drops keep coming out from the cracks.This is where my P.C is mountedAnother shot of the P.C.I have a roll of vinyl to finish the rear baffel just havent had the time yet, I am also going to remold the dash to finish it off.Aron

That is awsome, alot of hard work I bet.A few questions about your set up... What are some details on your PC, I couldn't see the HD, and I was just wondering how it's all set up.Also, about how much does that whole setup run ya? I know you are doing alot the work yourself (which is the only way to do it if you want to save money)... but roughly what did you put into it all?And last, does the wood in the back rattle at all? It looks like it would be a bit loose? If not, what did you use to seal/buffer the wood against the plastic?Keep up the good work, phenominal job.

Thanks guys!!!The Pc is a Asus P5pe-vm Board, Intel celeron D 356 processor (3.33 GHZ), Super talent 512 DDR 400 RAM, 2 M2-ATX powersupplies, Seagate 2.5" 160gb SATA HDD, D-link DWL510 wireless PCI card, Linksys HGA7S high gain antenna, and a tviewT 800-ts in the dashA rough Estimate including wiring, connectors, audio, and P.C. would be in the neighborhood of $5000. I keep with my local shops for everything and only buy online what I cant get local.I was supprised that the only rattles in the rear are the little side doors, But I'm working on a fix for that, It is hard to tell from the pic but there is a 3/16 gap around the wood between the sides and rear. The last baffle I made was real snug and that one rattled real bad. After I get My vinyl on the wood (I might try today looks like it will be nice out) there will still ne a 1/16 gap around so Im hoping to still be rattle free, but if I do I have 250 sqft of sound dampining laying around waiting to go in.EDIT: OOPS forgot the top of my enclosure is is also sound dampened to help avoid rattles Aron

Well ahd some time today and it was nice out soMy first shot working with vinyl. the color dosent look quite thet far off in personso thats strange. Also in the corners of the amprack I need some help but I will figure something out to make it look nicer. Well now I just got to finish the processor but that will be probably a month before I get a chance to work on that. Gotta start getting some stuff done to the house.AronAron

What is the software you run to do the GPS, audio etc. I see Alpine in the logo...does Alpine do PC software?OK, I am doing more research and it looks like there are several programs out there that achieve this...all of them very skin-able...How did you cut the holes for the Touchscreen LCD? Did you use a dremel tool? Looks like a very clean job. How about mounting the LCD...was the kit easy to install?Marc

Thanks AaronHey Sorry for the laggy reply, been busy. The GPS software I am using is Iguidance by the INAV corp. The front end program I use is called roadrunner, this is a free opensource program that uses winamp for all video and audio. Yes on our MP3car fourms I believe that there is like 12 active frontends but tons and tons of skins. and yes every thing is very skinable, with howto tutorials posted on the fourms which helps. The alpine is just part of the skin I was using at the time with no real afffiliation with the company. All I can say is WOW, what a great job...Where did you put the hazard and rear-window defrost buttons that were at the top?What kind of epoxy did you use for filler and how did you match the silver color (what kind of paint)?I was thinking of using a laptop as the PC and I am hoping to find a used one, maybe one with e broken LCD that someone will freecycle.org. I think I can slip it into the glove compartment...can you think of any disadvantages of using a laptop?And lastly, for the audio, I was looking at installing an Infinity Basslink II with the add-in 4 channel amp which I would run to the four door speakers. I am guessing I should be able to run the line-out on the PC right to the AMP/Sub combo.Marc

On the Bass Link, yes, you should be able to run a simple line out to the BL... You might not get 4ch though, so you might have to just turn the rear gain down slightly, if possible wit h the BL....

No Im currently using just the onboard sound in stereo sending left and right to my dsp-6 processor. Im with Sublimewind on the basslink topic. Currently I havent mounted the hazard and rear defrost switches. I will eitheir be mounting them in the center console and extending the wires or running a usb relay pack and try to write some code to control them from the P.C. that will depend on how long I procrastinate. The laptop will work great, Id say you could even mount it under the seat in a docking station, with a 12volt power supply hooked to ignition. Someone on the MP3car fourms wrote a script for this application that allows the laptop to automaticaly start the shutdown process when the power draw goes from external to the laptop battery.Aron

Ill try to get some when its done raining but none yet. My sub is only in .5ft3 though. There is a black tray that covers the spare tire with a open cavity. All I did was sanded like crazy to scugg up the plastic, spread on some kitty hair and applied some mat and resin to give more strength. When that was dried I applied e-dead v2 to add some dampining inside the self made enclosure. Then I made the ring for my woofer. placed a bead of some wood glue around the bottom edge of the ring used a hammer and another piece of mdf to press fit the ring in. then I used some 1.5" staples and the bostich to hold the ring in place. After I siliconed the outside of the ring to seal up the area between the mdf ring and the plastic, mixed up some more resin and placed tome mat over top of the mdf and some of the plastic cover. After that was dried I used some more e-dead to help seal the woofer into the ring. I really was suprised how effective it was. The enclosure will be tested when the JLw5 woofer comes out.Aron

I used a little less hardner so I could get somemore set up time to work in my mat (I used I believe it was only 3oz woven cloth but dont remember the weight. I learned alot by just reading and trial and error. In the audio world fiberglass started getting real big 7-9 years ago so I decided to give it a try with some kick panels (not the best idea for a first time project) Then just kept making things from glass for pratice thats about it. What else do you have done for mods besides the audio?

Curently Just the audio and wheels. I had some s techs on but I have a steap incline at the begining of my driveway and car wont make it, I bottom at the rockers so I had to take them off. I plan on doing some 8k HIDs and 6k fogs, but I keep spending money on other stuff. I bought another amp (Zapco 360.4) that I will bridge to run my midbass and will be using the other 360.4 to run a 4" and the current tweets I have. I will be doing a rebuild on the system so I can completly deaden the car and make a worklog of the install for USACi and IASCA comps as I will start to compete again next year. Acouple other mods that have been on my mind after I get my driveway redone are front and rear strut bars and to put the springs back on as well as mabye an intake. Exterior mods that I still want to do are roof rails and a mid spoiler. I also thought about swaping my rear drums for discs. Other then that I probably wont go to far other then mostly apperance type upgrades.Aron

Audio,I am about to attempt what you have dont with your sub beacuse it is the best thing i have seen that keeps the trunk functional. I jsut want to be sure that i am understanding what you have done. If you lift up that top piece in the cargo area does it look like this?I appologize for the use of "paint" i recently reformatted my pc and haven't reinstalled Adobe yet.

Hey Brian It looks about right but I have switched to a different enclosure that works better. If you have a circle jig and a router I would suggest my new enclosure, (or I guess a jigsaw would work 2)I cut I believe it was 6 rings from .75 mdf and 1 from .5 mdf. I used some glue clamps and pneumatic staples to bond the rings together and used the nut for the spare tire to keep it secured. Here are some pics, any questions just shout.Here is the old which is an odd thing, it looks quite ghetto I know but it did work well. Ignore the dampning material it was used so there wasnt a gap between the top of the enclosure and to aid in sealing the woofer in.Hope this helps, and excuse the pics my phone isnt that great of a camera.Aron

As far as circles, he prolly used a router and a circle jig, like a "jasper jig", but if you have a jigsaw and a good arm, it's not that hard, they just never look as GOOD...

Aaron nailed it, I think the best investment I ever made was my Jasper circle guide for my router. If you plan on cutting alot of holes I would highly suggest getting one. Ummmm I think you were wondering about the program I use for video and audio???the Post had 2 different skins The first one shown is LSX Void, the second is FSRBoth skins are real nice skins and run on a front end called Road Runner. Roadrunner is a Winamp based frontend program that allows easy acces to you music, video, and picture files from one central location using a mapped button to access the files. Roadrunner, LSXvoid, and FSR are all user configerable, meaning you will have to configure your own settings from a core install to set up the button mapping. All config is done via on screen through the skin. this is also one of the most supported skins for Roadrunner.The LSXvoid skin is a great skin and IMO the best skin for Roadrunner. It will run pn the slowest machine without much draw and is uber easy to config.the second skin FSR takes a machine that is a little quicker as the skin is flash based and consumes a little more of the CPU when you start to hit buttons (My first carp.c was a 1gig Via mini ITX system and would not run this skin very well) There is alot more to the setup of this skin and the visuals are just awesome. All config for this skin is done via the config file in the skins folder. Once setup this is an awesome skin with only one draw back, I dont think it is avaliable any more.Since this post I have changed frontends to a program called freeIce, the one main differance is that it is a WMP based frontend using media player instead of winamp. The frontend feels a lot less chunky and heavy and flows a little better IMO.
