Any GT owners with a CAI actually clock a 0-60?

Topic says it all. I have wondered what a GT will do 0-60 in with a CAI. Most reviews I read have the GT clocking a 0-60 at 7.2 seconds. Can she get under 7 with a CAI?Jim

well I have never actually clocked it (honestly) but it sure feels a hell of a lot faster then that. If you let it get through lift in first and have traction hit the rev limiter once and grab second I would bet it's under 7.

Out of curiousity, what actually happens when you hit the rev limiter? Does it automatically shut off the fuel....or does it just prevent the engine for revving any higher?Jim

It prevents the RPMs from going higher. Take your Vibe up to it. It won't hurt anything. At least that way you will know what it feels like when you do hit it. It kills your acceleration curve! LOL! So if you are racing, don't hit it.

I was just looking at an issue of Motor Trend and they clocked thier GT to 60 in 7.6 seconds. Hmmmm....I think I like the 7.2 seonds much better .Jim

Which of you guys has the 17 inch wheel/tire package? I swear I have a heck of a hard time staying in lift on the 1-2 change. I take it right up to the rev limiter and a lot of times it drops out of lift for a split second. It's frustrating... Trust me, I know how to work a manual too as I've had several cars with manuals and buddies at the track who hear my Corvette rip down the drag strip have joked with me asking if I have a sequential manual shifter in the Vette. Anyway, it's kind of frustrating, the 2-3 upshift is a bit easier, but I still have to come up onto the rev limiter.

Well....I have the 16" wheels with the Goodyears. It was a choice between the 17"ers and the moonroof. The moonroof won out . I have a hard time staying in lift. If I go to redline, I usually hit the next gear about 5900-6000 RPMS. I usually give it a full in and out with the clutch rather than slipping it a bit. Thats the key from what it seems....slipping the clutch to stay in lift.Jim

Kissfan is right about having to slip the clutch to stay in lift between 1st and 2nd. It's not something I do because I don't want to be too hard on the clutch. You are only a few hundred RPMs out of lift anyways. From 2nd to 3rd you can stay right in lift which I think is nice.

A slight slip will do it. I've alos been able to stay up there a few times buy throwing a quick smooth shift. Just takes some practice. These little guys don't have the grunt that Vette does!

Oh, I've been able to speed shift (basically keep the throttle to the floor on a hard upshift) and keep it in lift, it just didn't feel good at all. Sometimes the sticky 215 Dunlop 9000's grab and the car wheelhops pretty bad. It just doesn't feel good on the car to do that.

I had that happen last night on the way home. Kind of an erie feeling. Plus the roads were slightly damp and hitting lift going in second actually caused some wheel spin. I loved every minute of it.

I get wheel hops when I hit lift in first if the road is slightly damp. When it's dry I've gotten them going from first to second and second to third.

So when you hit the cutoff RPM, the "stuttering" is the engine RPM rising and falling between those limits. The torque reversal that occurrs probably isn't great for the engine, but likely not as bad as a drop-clutch launch. (Of course the time spent at max RPM doesn't do much for engine duarbility either...)

Here's an old thread I thought I'd bring back up. Has anyone clocked their GT's 0-60 running under 7 seconds? I'm wondering if I'm under 7 seconds with my CAI and Magnaflow cat-back exhaust.

I've been clocked at 6.8secs in my XRS with a bogged launch. I have a CAI and Magnaflow too.I can do better if I launch at around 4200 revs.
