Got nailed

Post by Merzbow »

So I had three different tires on my Vibe. One of which was leaking (had a small hole). So in between classes it feels and sounds like i have a flat. I get out and look, the tire is fine. I look at the other and the passenger rear is completely flat...why? No clue.I skip next class to go to Discount Tire, they cannot fix the rear tire so I pay $130 for the cheapest POS touring tire they have. They come out a few minutes later, say they can't fix the front tire either because there's about a 1/4 inch gouge along with the hole. So there goes ANOTHER $130 for a crappy touring tire on my winter rims.So that was bad enough, then I get my tests scores back in two of my classes and I failed both tests. At night ont he way home from my other class around 9pm. I was 1 minute or less from my house at a four way stop. There was ice there. The guy in front of me was having a stand off with the other three cars at the stop sign and I almost slid into him even though I started braking like a half mile before the sign. I stopped within a few inches of him before he finally took his turn to go across. I pull up and stop, wait for the next guy to go across, I start going through the intersection and I got smoked from behind. It was an older guy. Surprisingly I wasn't furious like I pictured myself getting. I felt more shattered and kind of like someone kicked me down. I love how I try soooooo hard and make so much effort to keep this car in pristine condition by parking way far away from everyone, washing it twice a week, changing oil every 3000 miles...then it just starts falling apart.Anyways, I already talked to my insurance and I am taking it in to get it fixed tomorrow if they can fit it in. On the positive side of things, I needed to get the rear quarter panel redone anyways because the clear coat was falling off, and the rear bumper needed to be replaced as well because it was spray painted gray instead of the real two tone texture....all of that thanks to a shady body shop that ripped me off near Detroit a couple years ago. I'll post the quote when I get it.Excuse the salt on the car, it just snowed.

Dam man, that sucks... I used to be like you when I owned my VW, it's spent nearly it's whiole life in a garage... I was so (removed) about it... It basically tore me up anytime anything happened to it (which seemed like a lot)Well, I got rid if it when I got my Subaru, things changed... The Subie never spent any time in a garage, I didn't look at things so drastically anymore, things happened, hit a deer, re-ended a lady backing out of her driveway (her fault) other things... I was much better able to take the hit.... And you know what, in the end, that has been my best car ever... hardly anything went wrong with the car over the 9yrs I owned it, much UNLIKE my VW, which was a POS.... I'm a better CALMER person these days, boy, I was BAD back then though, BAD... Forrest Gump said it best.... ISH HAPPENS

So sorry for your bad luck. It's a bummer when your pride and joy is all banged up.If you can find any humor in the situation, it's that now your license plate really describes your car: Slammed Vibe

Hope you get your Vibe fixed the way you want it to be this time. Winter generally sucks big time for cars. At least it looks like it's surface damage... bad enough... but it could have been a lot worse. Just think if the guy had pushed you into moving traffic. I know this kind of thing happens all the time, but I wish people would pay more attention to changing road conditions during the winter. Glad you didn't get hurt.

"I love how I try soooooo hard and make so much effort to keep this car in pristine condition by parking way far away from everyone, washing it twice a week, changing oil every 3000 miles...then it just starts falling apart"I was the same way with parking! One time I actually had a woman tell me it was MY FAULT that her two oversized teen boys were pushing each other into my car (while I was in it) because I was not parked legally (I was in front of a chinese restaurant waiting for my husband to come out with the take-out). All I could respond with was "So you're teaching your children that they are never responsible for their own actions - nice."My husband, a professional musician, had his truck hit THREE TIMES in the last year in the parking lots of the UPSCALE restaurants he plays. Not one person accepted responsibility or left a note. They were not small accidents either - the whole right side, the tailgate & the headlight and fender. He used to laugh at me for parking so far away or basing my parking decision on if I think the SUV or Mini Van was used to transport somebody's door-flinging DEMON SEED.I hope that if you haven't had the expensive alignment my car needed (shims?) you take this opportunity to get it done at the insurance company's expense!

Thanks for the support everyone Going tomorrow to get the estimate. I'll be getting a rental too so maybe I can get something exciting. The guy that hit me was driving a Ranger. All I could see with his truck was the front bumper was a tad off and his fog light was dangling...Kevera, the Taurus got wrecked last February....I think from now on I'm not doing anything in February. The Taurus got smashed, the Vibe's engine blew, and one of my old NInja's cylinders blew all within two weeks. Here is link to the thread about my Taurus. I ended up donating it to the caner foundation because it wouldn't have been worth repairing.I'll post up pics when it's finished. I can't wait.

Well, my insurance is covering it fully. I have a $500 deductible but my insurance company is going after his insurance company to refund it for me so I wont be paying anything for repairs.....When they check my record though soon I will certainly be making up for it with my 8 points. I like how you feel like your insurance company is doing you a favor when they pay for repairs lol....then you remember, oh....I'm paying $2100 a year for it (removed)....Anyways, thanks for the concern everyone I will keep you posted

Watch out for your neck/shoulders and upper back. Mine were killing me after my wreck Jan 5. I'm still in physical therapy for it, but I'm feeling SO much better than I did! I put it off for 3 weeks thinking 'It will get better' Finally I gave in and called the doc. The insurance of the guy that hit me will be covering all my medical bills, so I dont feel so bad about it.I like you wasnt mad at the guy that hit me. I was more frustrated at the woman stopped in front of us. I almost hit her too and I understand that his vehicle was a lot heavier than mine therefor being harder to stop quickly.Hope everything gets taken care of for you! Good luck!

Thanks. I hope you feel better too man When the Taurus got wrecked last February, it triggered the seizures I had last July which caused me to lose driving privileges until Jan. 26th of 2008. I know the pain
