alloy wheel scuff repair=

2003 with 17 inch alloys . driver has the habit of hitting curbs. wheel is scuffed all the way around. any ideas ? can you put a light grinder wheel on a drill and buff it down smoother ? would that throw the balance off ?

There are shops in the back of car magazines that will fix them for about $100. After paying the price to fix them, that should get you started on kicking your expensive "habit". Or you can fix them yourself, and they will look like crap, but you'll save money. It depends on how much they bother you.
