I need to paint the exterior molding on my 2005 Vibe. It was involved in a side impact. Some of the replacement moldings I have are a different tone that the rest of the car. Any tips? Brush or spray? I went to the Pontiac dealership here and they said they don't sell paint for the trim pieces. I have a mixture of black/dark grey trim now.
Do you have cladding for your mouldings? I am not sure what year they went to all body colored parts. One good place is http://www.paintscratch.com you give them your paint code and stuff from your car, they mix you up paint however you want it, in a can, spray, etc. Worked out well for me on my Civic when I did my mirrors.
I'm not sure exactly what you mean by cladding. I have plastic moldings that flare out along the edge of the entire vehicle. It is black plastic that is clipped in place.
On Vibes, there are exterior trim peices like the bumper, fender flares, rocker panels that are made of plastic. on some vibes, these are the plastic's natural dark gray color. On others that have the optional monotone appearance package, these trim pieces are painted the same color as the rest of the car. It is these pieces we tend to refer to as cladding. If you look at various vibe pictures around here you can find some of each, two tone and monotone. Either you have some painted black and some natural dark gray, or they are all the unpainted black gray and some of them have faded more than others. If all of the pieces are unpainted, then maybe some sort of black plastic color restorer product might darken the gray pieces up to match the darker ones, and Whelan is the man to recommend just such a product. Probably easier than trying to lighten up the dark ones. If some are painted and some are not, well, that sounds like it would be more work, either paint the unpainted ones to match, or swap the painted ones for unpainted. I don't know what the color scheme is on your car, I could only find that it was a 2005.
