American Racing Wheels

Post by Fievel »

A few dealers around here carry American Racing Wheels. A friend of mine has them on his lumina, and they look really nice. They're not real expensive, and Sears is running a deal for 4 wheels for $300 through the end of the month in this area. Just wondering if this is a "too good to be true" type of a deal.

If you like the look it is not. American racing is a good brand name for wheels. There is most likely a site online that will give reviews for the wheels you are looking at. Or go up to a wheels shop and ask them about a few different brands of wheels and if they have any problems with them. Hope that helps ya out.

I have had AR wheels on two of my previous cars (my 94 Grand Prix and my 2000 Mustang) and they were great. They were polished aluminum finish, which required regular cleaning and polishing to keep them shiny, but they were nice wheels. On the GP, I had AR style #157 (15 inch diameter, 7 inch width) and on the Mustang, I had Torq Thrust II's (17"x9.5") which were absolutely beautiful on the car. I still have both of these sets of wheels and will be selling them soon. Never had any trouble with either of them. The set for my GP I bought from a local independent wheel and tire shop. The ones for the Mustang, I bought from Pep Boys. Pep Boys had some decent prices on their AR wheels. If you don't see any that you like on display in the store, ask to see the catalog because they can order any wheel that AR makes. They can also call an AR representative to verify that the particular wheel you choose can be ordered in the right size and bolt pattern for your car. Don't get your heart set on a wheel until you are sure that you can get it in the size you want AND in the right bolt pattern for your car. I have been disappointed a few times because a wheel that I really liked wasn't available to fit my car. Always check first.BTW--I am currently looking to purchase a set of ASA KA3 17" chrome wheels for my Vibe. I think they'll look pretty nice on the car. Another word of caution---American Racing seems to tend toward making wheels for older American cars, not much for imports, so be careful when choosing wheels from them.

In my opinion, A.R. makes an excellent wheel, and the company has been around for a long time. I believe the bolt pattern on the Vibe is 5 X 100, with a 38mm offset(?)A set of these A.R.'s are going on my 85 Vette someday.

We've got Torque Thrust II's on our '55 2 door post. 17x9.5 on back, 17x7 on front. The back barely fit under the wheel well! TOO Nice!I haven't been real thrilled with American Racing's new wheels. They're kinda dated. But Motegi is a different story! (part of A.R.E. family)
