A set of projector headlamps from a Subaru Legacy, the front grille mask from a MDX, the combination of some back door fun between the current Accord and a 7 series, and the wheels from a Kia Optima? Give up! The 2009 Acura RL, Honda's worst design yet!Seriously, I mean seriously?!?!?! I had to get used to seeing that front plate on the grille of the MDX, and now they put it on a sedan that literally looks like a glorified Accord. At least the last version had style and looks. This thing is like a slapped together POS! Complete with a Family Truckster grille to match. Everything about it scream overpriced Accord. And let's not forget Honda was supposed to introduce an optional V8 for the MDX and Pilot that would be available in the RL. Guess that never happened. The only car in this class that does not have a V8 option, sickens me. Can't wait for this to be on the streets, I will make it a point to laugh at each one.
I think it's funny how auto manufactures are biting on each others styles.. It's like the designers have taken the past 8-10 years off and nobody can come up with anything unique..
What happened to Honda's design team? I always thought Hondas were kind of boring looking, but at least they weren't offensive. This car and the new Accord are stinky designs.
I still think my 02 Civic was a great looking car compared to all the others. Interior was much much better than the 2000 and belows and felt more upscale. Exterior was great, only if I could have had the Si powerplant though.
The back end looks nice, but the rest is hideous. Why is Honda screwing up all their cars D:I fear the worst for the TL, I'm sure it's due for a redesign soon, and currently it's one -great- looking car..
i agree, back end looks decent, current acura's like the tl and tsk look great, but man that is hideous..i've seen worse though..so i guess it cant be THAT bad..
I had hope Honda figure it out by now, from what I read. What another mistake. First. This is a great car. If you close your eyes. Who is their target market? Didn't Honda figure it out already with reports that show they are far behind Lexus.Honda that a Home Run with the Legend. Both gen1 and gen 2. The idea of changing the name for gen 3 to "RL" was to compete against Lexus, BMW, etc.A glorified Accord is not going to cut it for the $50K crowd. Where is the V8? The V10? Again, I'm sure it's a great car. Honda either have to really compete with Lexus, or go back to the old Acura days. Forget BMW, Benz, Lexus, Infiniti. The game is long lost. An entire generation (like me) have been waiting for 15+ years an Acura product we feel passionate about. Attacking Volvo-Saab market may still be a good plan. And bring back a real Integra, Vigor, and Legend. Oh and NSX too.
2004 Vibe, Auto Trans. Built Sept 2003. Date in service May 2004. Sold May 2006.
Even BMW's 'Bangle (removed)' looks better that this! I guess Japanese stylists have gone back to the 1980's 'Interesting surface details' styling because in Japan you can't get more than a few feet away from a car, so you never see the whole screwed-up mess at once!
My 2003 Vibe Base Auto 2-tone Salsa "SalsaWagon" was built in May 2002. I acquired it in Feb 2004/Traded it in on a 2016 Honda HR-V in Feb 2018.
They Legend was a great car back then and still was. I had both the gen 1 and gen 2 so I may be biased but oh well. I picked up 90 Legend LS Coupe (Gen 1) for my first car and it was a blast. 2.7L V6, leather, power seat w/ memory, moonroof, trip computer w/ distance till empty. That was a great car and it would get 30 mpg on the highway. After that got cracked up my an old lady I found a 92 Legend L sedan. That was a nice car but wasn't as loaded as the 90 since it was only the L model. Anyway, the changed the name to RL for 96, while they still called it the legend in japan. They started loosing ground then and have been still. Hopefully they can get their act together. The TL is a beautiful car and hopefully they don't screw that up.
