CD wont eject

Post by ajflan »

Ok, so all I listen to in my car are CD's, and I have never had a problem. All of a sudden I pop in a CD and now I can't get it out. The player isn't making a sound, like its not even trying to read the CD, and it doesn't make any noise when I hit the eject button, just nothing happens. Any ideas??

I bought a box of 4 Vibe radios on Ebay. All 4 had a partial or total burnt out display and 2 would not eject. I got a full refund including shipping. Some day I'm going to dissect them and see if I can fix them. The bottom line is that the stock HU in the Vibe is total junk. Replace it with something good.

I just find it odd that after over 4 years it just quits with no warning. I have the moons and tunes, and I always thought that the stock head unit was just fine. To be honest, I hate aftermarket head units. They all look so cheesy with all thier fancy buttons and crap. I'm just angry because I like the CD that I cant get out.

Did you try holding the eject button for 3 seconds or more. Was the disc you put in more translucent than other type discs.Maybe pulling the fuse and reinstalling it may cycle the radio to eject the cd.

It was the same as any other cd I have ever put in. I'll try to hold the button for longer. I just cursed at it loudly, and that didn't seem to help, so I'll try that...

Ok, its out. It turns out that the best way to get it out was for me to get even angrier and punch the head unit. As soon as I did that, it popped out all by its self. Crazy thing. Thanks for the help guys!

Has it happened again for you? I hope it isn't a recurring thing. I have weak girlish hands, and they won't hold up well if I have to keep punching my radio.

No, I had like eleventeen radios go bad in my Vibe and there was only one of the many that ever did that --- and only that one time. You're probably OK for the future. Although the radio will probably die for other reasons, seeing how they're they're not exactly the most reliable pieces of equipment. Could be just some electrical gremlin. *shrug*

I still notice a disappointingly high number of posts here in regards to radios holding CDs for ransom. It surprises me OEM manufacturers never thought to design in an emergency/manual release for discs. Every computer CD-ROM drive has a manual eject. Stick a tiny screwdriver or unbent paperclip into that tiny hole on the front of your drive and it disengages the spindle and pushes the tray out. Most cars have manual overrides for when a moonroof malfunctions. In my G6, you pull down the reading light/moonroof control trim panel and there is a slot to stick - I believe it is a hex driver - into and it allows you to manually advance the close cycle until the moonroof closes. Why is it so hard for them to integrate in some sort of screwdriver-actuated or pin-actuated slot to release a disc when such a situation arises? Even if it's only accessible from the rear of the radio, it would still prevent the what seems to becoming an ever-more-prevalent issue of discs being lost forever in dead or toasted radios. For those who have the knowledge and are willing to do it, an owner could pull their own radio and retrieve their CD, but even for those who would never do anything more than check their oil and fill their washer fluid, a dealer tech could still retrieve the CD for the owners.
YES!I still visit GenVibe periodically. I have not forgotten about my "original" family over here!
