Chevy Traverse

Post by Whelan »

With some cues from the successful Malibu that just came out, this looks like a nicely appointed SUV with claimed best in class fuel economy from a DI 3.6L V6.* Turn signals integrated in the outside mirrors* Rear spoiler integrated over the tailgate window* Roof rails designed to enhance the sleek appearance when a roof rack is not in place* 20-inch Ultra-Bright aluminum wheels (standard on LTZ models)* Dual, bright exhaust outlets* Panoramic, power-operated sunroofIf Chevy keeps making models like this I may be in the market for an American car in a few years.

So I'm guessing it's on the same platform as the Acadia/Outlook/Enclave? I was wondering when Chevy was going to get it's own version.Looks good to me.

Chevy already has a competitor with those larger cars, the Trailblazer, who is in desperate need of a HUGE update

Talk about weak. Was in a new rental Hyundai Tuscon ( I think thats what that is), with the V6. Talk about slow. For some reason the koreans have not gotten power from a V6 yet. I drove a Kia Sportage to with the 2.7L V6 same car as Santa Fe, it went nowhere. Felt just as fast as my Matrix to be honest.

Actually, the Sportage isn't the same as the Santa Fe, it is much smaller. The SF is based off the Sonata platform. The Tucson is the same vehicle as the Sportage, those are based off the Elantra. As far as power goes: Not all of their V6's are weak, just that one. That engine is only 173 HP and is of a design that's approaching a decade old. The newer designs are better for HP and fuel economy. The upcoming 2009 Sonata's 3.3 puts out 249 HP and the version in the Genesis has 264 HP. The larger version of that engine (3.8L) in the Genesis churns out about 290.Anyway.... back on track, that looks like a nice car for Chevy. Nice interior especially.

Thanks for the info Colonel. I knew it was one or the other that was similar. I have yet to drive a newer V6 from Hyundai as of yet, but those I know are screaming for more torque, and with a V6, you would expect more. Now my fiances 3.7L V6 in her Liberty, feels like it could rip a tree out of the ground by the stump!

I don't have numbers in front of me. I think these "crossover" are real loosers. I hardly seen any on the streets. Ok, maybe the Buick version more than others. Still. GM would have been better selling minivans, no matter how outdated it was. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure Acadia/Outlook/Enclave are great. What family can afford these things? If you need the space, a minivan is better. If you need to tow, get a Tahoe. IMO, bad calculation by the entire auto industry (Ford/GM) on thinking everyone want's more style and hate minivans. Look around.

Here's a story on them: http://www.automedia.com/2007_...1cg/1I like the exterior look of the Chevy. Not to big on the interior though. I still like my Rogue better!

if im not mistaken the envoy/rendezvous(or braveda) got replaced with the acadia/enclave so this traverse is just replacing the trailblazer, it's nothing special

These "CUV's" also replace all GM minivans (Chevy Uplander/Pontiac SV6/Saturn Relay/Buick Terraza)

To the person who asked above, YES, this is the same mechanical platform as the Outlook/Enclave/Acadia. Maybe not the same market segment, but the same physical platform - lambda.[disturbingly long rant]Personally, I'm irritated. Yes, we all know chevy is supposed to be a full-line brand. But come ON, do they need to have a variant of EVERY SINGLE NEW VEHICLE THAT COMES TO THE OTHER BRANDS? BS like this is why Pontiac is becoming harder to market. Why would someone get a G6? A malibu is the same car (though the "new" malibu is probably a better overall car). Why a torrent? It's a carbon copy of the 'nox. G5? Cobalt knockoff. And the chevy versions are always refreshed and updated far more frequently than any other brands. As in the old days, GM is neglecting other brands in favor of chevy. Chevy can hold it's own. It's doing fine. For the last time, they need to turn their eyes and their funding and bring back these other brands. Cadillac has been revived. It's bigger than I ever would have expected it to be when the renaissance started. Saturn has new life, courtesy of opel. Many criticize them for being euromerican, but it works. The cars are fantastic (most are built here too, not overseas (might be all, but i'm not sure adn too lazy to look)), Buick is slowly attracting new owners with the enclave, but a single vehicle will not keep the brand up and running. While the lucerne and lacrosse/allure are selling, they need new and exciting (or at least MORE exciting) cars to replace them. And Pontiac, well, we all thought Pontiac was finally ready to be saved, and now GM doesn't even know what to do with it anymore. G8 has already been slated for an EOP (end of production) date, and the first ones haven't even made it to the showrooms yet. The G5 has no planned replacement despite it's original prupose as a "temporary solution to the fill the slot left behind by sunfire." Well, for a temporary solution, it doesn't seem like they have any plans to '86 it and get something new and fresh in there that ISN'T a blantant rebadged chevy. The Vibe's future is questionable, all signs i'm seeing point to GM wanting out of the NUMMI agreement. The G6 has no imminent refresh coming, and what was supposed to be an "all new" G6 in 09/10 on the alpha or EPII platforms has supposedly been cancelled. The torrent is already on it's way out, and GM has decided that Pontiac is not getting a zeta cousin, even though everyone and their mother know that a trans am/firebird could bring new life to the brand. The only thing pontiac has going for it right now is the G6 convertible - being the only hardtop convertible next to the XLR in the GM family (but the ONLY hardtop under 30k GM makes) and the solstice, but even the solstice's appeal is fading because in the first 2-3 years, you couldn't find one on a lot...anywhere. Waiting lists were months or years long. Now, they're all over, sitting on lots, loaded with rebates just to get them sold. Again, there are no idications of any refresh or update coming anytime soon. And I'm SURE it's just a matter of time before GM decides to *******ize pontiac further by throwing chevy a kappa car.So seriously. Even though the traverse doesn't trample on pontiac territory, it just further infuriates me because chevy dealers have yet ANOTHER new-to-the-brand vehicle to sell, while pontiac dealers continue to beg for more - ANY - "gotta-have" products that ARE something more than chevy's with different badges and different facias. I thought Lutz "had a soft spot for pontiac." Well, aside from the solstice he hasn't done much of anything for the brand. When will the idiocy stop and someone finally turn around and say enough is enough and save our brand???[/disturbingly long rant]
YES!I still visit GenVibe periodically. I have not forgotten about my "original" family over here!

Chevy does get the golden treatment... They'll let them sell anything at another division's expense.Last year they sold 2.2 million, Pontiac had 358,000.
