Removing the factory M&T amp

Post by kmvibe »

I did a search and didn't find anything that really helped. How complicated will it be to remove the factory amp and replace it with an aftermarket 4 channel amp? I'll be swapping out the factory speakers with aftermarket components (front) and coaxials (rear).Kenny

Removing the factory amp is very simple. If your going to add a new amp and speakers, its running all new wires that gets annoying. I just installed JBL GTO 6 1/2' in all 4 doors and added a nice 4channel alpine amp. Look at the last page of Blown Amp? for some install pics

Yea i'll do my best to help you with anything you run into. If your doing a full install the hardest things I ran into was running the amp power wire through the existing hole. I used a long screwdriver to pry up the rubber boot then slid the wire between the boot and firewall. The boot is sealed off so it is almost impossible to feed the wire through the boot. Same with the door speakers. I had to pry up the rubber boot and weed the speaker wire between the boot and boot opening in the door. Lemme know what you plan on doing exactly and ill tell you what I ran into.

Wait, let me get this right, so I don't hyperventalate... is your power wire between the factory grommet and the firewall METAL.. or is the wire protected from chafing through?
