Some of you may have been reading about my mis-adventure buying a Vibe GT.When I bought it, it didn't have a Catalytic Converter and the CEL was on. After reading the MIL, the Misfire in 1,3,4 seemed to be related to the Catalytic Converter, O2 Sensor, and Mass Air Flow. Of which I have replaced them all.I just got my car back from the Toyota Dealership and apparently the previous owner hacked up the engine wiring harness and until I replace the Wiring harness they cannot troubleshoot it any further. They are quoting me $1400-1600 for a new engine wiring harness.....I am thinking about taking to an automotive electrical shop, but I am afraid that at the end of it all, I will have to get a new harness.Anyone know of a wrecked GT that has a good wiring harness?I called the dealer I bought it from today and I don't expect much action from them.

I am going to try, but in Idaho the lemon law doesn't apply to used vehicles without a manufacturer warranty. It also doesn't cover alterations to the stock vehicle. We will see....
You have some homework to do on the internet to find a source for a used harness. Most places that list other used stuff for Vibes can probably sell a harness.

UHHH that sucks! are there any junk yards around you? There were some members on here that visited them often hopefully one of them can get one for ya. I wonder if the matrix xrs was the same harness too? maybe even the corolla xrs? that would give some more options.

Man, that's just rotten! I don't know why the previous owner did all that stuff (somebody did waaay too much modding!) and why the dealer sold it to you in that condition is beyond me. I hate to see that!Anyway, car-part.com is a good place to start. I'm sure one will turn up somewhere, just keep searching through the yards.

Shouldn't the selling dealer be responsible for the Catalytic Converter?I thought it was a federal law to not tamper or remove it.So for a Licensed Dealer to sell it that way doesn't sound legit. Can you get your $$ back for fraud representation?Know your rights, check em out!
I dont know if this will help or not but I did find this:Quote, originally posted by EPA »(11) What may happen if I don't use the correct converter?First, it is a violation of Federal law because it is likely to increase the amount of pollutioncoming out of the vehicle. Penalties for violations by individuals, service or repair shops or fleetoperators are up to $2,500 per violation. (Each improper installation is considered a violation.) Newcar dealers can be penalized up to $25,000 per violation. Any person who causes a violation couldbe subject to the same penalty as the installer.taken from: http://www.epa.gov/OMS/cert/factshts/catcvrts.pdf
also look at:http://www.epa.gov/Compliance/...d.pdfspecifically pages 4 and 5.I think it would be wise to ask a lawyer about this. They can look at all the legalese and decifer it for you. Then be able to tell you if further leagal action is nessessary.

So I am guessing that it won't work? I took my Vibe to the Pontiac Dealer today and they checked the fuel injectors and they are fine (although the tech screwed up one of the Injector Seals and cannot get it to seal again so now they have to order one). They are looking into the wiring harness. After the initial look, they are saying that the harness looks fine and they are saying it is the ECU and that they are sensitive and that if you try to mess with them it will ruin them.
