Alright.....normally, I just bite my lip on a topic that drives me nuts, take a deep breath and just move on.....and I won't try and turn this into a rant/soapbox....If you have been watching the weather lately, we have turned into an ice box here in MN with below zero temps and windchills well below that. One evening my wife and I went to one of the Best Buys near where we live and I didn't even hesitate about dropping her off at the door as I didn't want her walking from the back of the parking lot in this weather on a parking lot that almost resembles a skating rink it was so slick. (BTW, my wife is due with our child sometime around February 19th) They have a spot right near the front door for expectant/new moms out of consideration. (which after finally having a pregnant wife, I can see where they get clumsy, short of breath and their balance is off as the time gets closer) Anyway, the spot had a car already parked there so I left my wife at the front door where she stood and waited for me inside next to a younger kid (probably 16-18).Parked the car, and began to make the cold trek to the inside of the store. As I began to get closer to the store, I walked past the "expectant mothers" spot (which I also believe would be okay for a new father to park there if he is on his own with the child....Equal rights! LOL ) Anyway, the one kid my wife was standing near, exited the store with his buddy who bought something and remote unlocked the vehicle that was parked in that very spot. As we passed in the parking lot, I was kind of a smarta$$ and asked them "So, which one of you is pregnant....(they were both boys) to which they responded "F...U...."I left it at that as it was cold outside and I had better things to do. In the past I have always tried to hold the door open for people and show that Minnesota nice....but I have really tried to go the extra steps when I see a new mom or soon to be mom now in hopes that someday....my wife may need that extra hand out there and some nice person will go the extra step for her.Wow.....I feel better now! Steve
(removed) Steve! People now a days are so rude and they are teaching their kids to be just as rude! And these are the first turds to complain about things when they do not go there way or not take blame for things on their own! Man society is going to hell in a hand-basket!
Hey man I'm totally with ya on this one...I probably would have dragged the kid out of the car and beat him...Hopefully it was near plymouth when it happened.. that way my buddy would get called from the police... and I'd get away with it...MN nice is out the door... If it's not a Vibe owner... Don't be MN Nice...I've given up on it... too many times have I been rudely treated by our "MN Nice"I'm still nice.. but I don't go out of my way... If it's a lady with two kids trying to open a door.. sure I'll open the door and let them in...if it's just some punk (guy or girl) I usually open the door, let myself in and if they're right behind me hold it enough for them to grab... if not... oh well, they've got arms, they can open it themselves...I could go on and on... oh, and by punk I mean someone that truley looks like they wouldn't do the same for me... someone in a hurry, someone that's talking on their cell phone while walking (I doubt they are going to take the time to say "thank you") I'm a punk, I have tattoo's, dress kind of a like a skater.. but yet I try to give people some respect...
I am kind of that way too now Kamikaze. People have to earn my nice now!People just do not reciprocate it back anymore. I am not a person that thinks everyone is nice or good in this world anymore and likewise at work, I do not have to like you I just have to work with you.
WTG steve, i woulda done the same stuff as you, it's like people who park in a handicap spot just to get something quickly..you have legs, park a few spots over and walk...just so many ignorant people in this world it aint even funny..
I was going to reply that it's people in cars these days, but it's even more than that. It's people in lines at the store, etc. While obviously we all look out for what's best for us, there is absolutely no attention paid to anyone else any more. Me, me, me, me, me, me.I have an 8 year old, and I will absolutely make it a point to talk to him about people if we see that kind of rude behavior.
I'm split on this subject. In Utah, an expectant mother spot is not law. It is a courtesy. I'm all for letting expecting mothers park closer. But since it isn't a law, it is hard to enforce. Yes I have a son. Yes my wife and I are trying to get pregnant. Yes it is very rude of anyone to park there unless they are pregnant. But it really is hard to enforce. In the city I live in, a handicap parking spot is only legally a handicap spot if there is a pole and sign in front of it. If it is just painted, it is not legal.

should have sent your pregnant wife after them. I'm sure that would have set them straight.yeah... one of my parking lot peeves is people not parking where they should because they are to lazy to walk a few feet.

i will just add that I have come to the conclusion that almost all people are self centered DB's. yes, pretty much everyone. No one holds the doors for others when your arms are full, no one says thank you or please. they are rude and do not care. If I'm helping one customer and some young punk kid walks up demanding my attention, I stop what I'm doing, and I tell him to GTF out from my kiosk and never come back. I won't tolerate it in the slightest. I will confess there have been times I have double parked in spaces that are not technically parking spots if I am running inside or unloading boxes for the store, I do try not to park in any handicap or otherwise reserved spots, but rather the front areas that are not parking at all.
I live near a ski area and have to drive through the main parking lot to get to my house. On weekends they have attendants telling people where to park. They're done at noon. After that lazy people begin to fill in the center lane left open for ambulances and others to pass through the large lot. By about 1:30pm there is barely room for one car to fit through. These people can ski all afternoon but are too lazy to walk an extra hundred feet to the lodge. We are a drive-in society.
