Red isn't exactly lawful, not sure if that would be an issue come time for an inspection or getting pulled over. I tried some white ones in mine in the license plate lights but they were diiiiiiim. The LED's in the bulbs were completely in the wrong angle when thye're fitted into the light housings... the part of the LED that puts out the most light ends up shining straight back instead of down. Those were just the run of the mill wedge bulb replacements from superbrightleds.com.I tried the festoon style LED bulbs as a dome light too - looked cool but were extremely dim and useless. But they're now making custom modules to stick up there with multiple LED's which I would imagine would be much brighter.

Yeah i think its illegal for red or blue on your car, orange, green, yellow and white could work. You would have to ask your local po po to get the exact specifics. But my cop friends said that above. For a good led bulb it needs to have lots of led's in its housing to really get the light around...reflectors in it help too.

Guys where does it say he wants red?I don't know which way the sockets point on the Vibe, but On my MPV they point straight down. I got 194 led bulbs that are of the SMD type, which is a lot brighter. I got white, and it is a cool white, leaning toward the blues rather than the yellowish of an incandescant. Mine have 3 little SMDs on the top so they face down but you can get them with the diodes on the sides. It worked for me!

Just out of curiosity, what's the reasoning for changing the dome light? I find LED's are brighter, but show much less detail/depth. It'll be harder to read maps, etc with them as opposed to the oem. If it's just for looks however, that's a different story.

well, I know the 07 vibe with a sunroof has individual map and dome lights. You could swap out the dome light for an LED for the cool factor, and keep the map lights for readabiltiy. That's what i did for my wagon. I picked up a little color changing LED at autozone for like $4 and it changes 11 different colors. I like the look, and I still have my other map light for the "oh **** I dropped something" moments.

Opening your side panels shouldn't be a problem, just be careful with them and make sure you disconnect your battery and drain residual power.
