Dash Kit Question

Post by madbrad »

Hi everybody, new member here. I have a question about the dash kit that I have for my little sister's Vibe, to instal an aftermarket HU.This kit allows me to use either the DIN cage or do it ISO style. If I want to go ISO, there are 2 large pieces to attach to the sides. On the left side, I have to cut of an ear, but I don't know which one. There's a vertical ear at the top left corner of the front of the kit, and on the big piece there's an angled ear in the same spot. The 2 ears interfere with each other. One is the correct one for the vibe, and the other must be cut off to allow the piece to be attached to the kit. I need to know which one to kepp and which one to cut off. The reason I can't look in the Vibe's dash is it is not around for me to do so. It is away on holiday with its owner. I could wait, but I figure those of you who have put in an aftermarket HU in his or her Vibe know what I am talking about and can tell me which ear. I'm fixin' to put up pics to illustrate my issue.

Thanks! I searched for dsh kit and got nothing. I was so tired I couldn't think of another word to search for. Looks like it's the angled tabs I want. How's it for depth? The kit I have has 2 trim rings. one is deeper letting the radio stick out about a half inc in case you need it.

Just keep refering back to my tutorial mang... It shows the mounting points you need... I "ISO" mounted mine, it seemed like the lesser of the 2 evils... EDIT: I see solder, and I see 3M tape.... good man...!!!

Ha ha! I'm an electrician, and while a few mickey mouse companies use cheap tape, most use good stuff. I'm never short of good tape. I must've put together a dozen or more wiring adapters in my day and I always solder.Your dash kit is a lot different from mine. You mentioned using the cage with ISO. I thought you use the cage OR go ISO. I went ISO with this, and also went ISO the other time I had a choice, and in both cases, using the cage wouldn't allow the side brackets of the ISO thing to be screwed to the HU. It seems to me the ISO bracketry means you don't need the cage. After all that posting and photographing, I found an instruction book in the package, so I didn't need to come and ask after all. Th epack was opened previously in the store and all the contents were in shambles, and this instruction book was hidden between 2 folds of cardboard. Anyway, it tells you what ears to cut off for each specific vehicle, so I got it done now, except the depth issue. I used the flush trim ring, and had to do a lot of fineggling to get the motorized face to work with it, but if there's not enough room in back, I will have to use the alternate, deep trim ring.

There is enough room behind the unit... mine in my post is a flip down face and the ISO mount works fine.. Congrats on your new found sound..!!

Thanks! Waterdown, I have heard the name but I don't know where it is.I tried to get it as flush as I can get away with. I hope there's enough room behind.
