A Pontiac dealer in North Carolina posted this unusual auction on eBay:http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...ZWDVWQuote:"We will order a BRAND NEW 2009 Pontiac Vibe built to your specifications...ONLY $500 OVER DEALER COST!! You tell us what color and configuration you want and we will take care of the rest! You can order the Base 1.8L, the All-Wheel Drive, or the GT Edition!""After the orders are placed, the Vibes are averaging around 4 - 6 Weeks For Delivery."
No crap...!! I'm really diggin the 09' looks... The older models looked like so many of Pontiac's car, that being all the plastic "tacked" on.. the 09' is just soooo much smoother.I can't say I like the tail lights, that is minor though.... What I REALLY don't like is the integrated HVAC and stereo, how the heck are we going to upgrade to aftermarket (a big deal for me, being an audio guy)I think it's cool that they are doing this though...

I had a Maxx and it is fairly simple to replace the unit because it is a simple rectangle, like every other radio out there. Look at the one on the Vibe and they've got buttons all over the place. There is no single rectangle on the new Vibe, but rather three. One for the radio's main unit and two vertical ones for additional controls. Maybe an aftermarket kit will turn the vertical ones into storage bins? That would be uuuuuuuuugly.

That's not the price...it's a RESERVE. That means people have to keep bidding until the (secret) minimum low is met. If it's not reached, nobody gets it.
I'd pass for now on this one.....unless I read this wrong.....it's just an auction for the "right" to order it..."This Auction Is For The Right To Order A Brand New '09 Pontiac Vibe Through Our Dealer Allocation Program ** ** Some restrictions may apply for Canadian Bidders - please call or e-mail for details. ** " Unless that $13,000.00+ gets put towards the final purchase price of the ordered car, I think I'd just wait and give the local dealer my specs and play the waiting game.

The dealer where I got my 2003 will order one @ $49 over invoice. Don't know if there is an allocation issue.

Judging by the rest of the description, I'd assume it's for the car itself, not just the chance to order one then pay for it. Who knows what the reserve is though. could be well over the price of the car. I can't imagine the vibe selling THAT quickly that one would need to buy the rights to first pick. It's not like the Challenger where there's only so many being built in the first model year.

I agree, the Maxx is easy to replace the radio, but I think the Vibe will be much harder because instead of a simple rectangle for the radio, notice how there are two vertical stacks in addition to the center rectangle for the radio. Once you take out the whole radio assembly, you're going to have two vertical holes where the radio used to be. I guess those will either get filled with storage bins or replaced with blank panels. IMHO, either option will be uuuuuugly.

The VIN number listed in the eBay ad is for a 2008 Base, so the ad is indeed for the RIGHT TO ORDER an '09 Base, AWD, or GT at $500 over invoice, plus the price of the car itself.
My 2003 Vibe Base Auto 2-tone Salsa "SalsaWagon" was built in May 2002. I acquired it in Feb 2004/Traded it in on a 2016 Honda HR-V in Feb 2018.
See what I'm saying? The radio isn't a standard rectangle. It looks like Toyota is starting to go the way of GM, in regards to the interior parts. They've got a nice refreshed dashboard and what do they do? They go to the parts bin for details, like the power mirror switch, the cruise stalk (should be buttons on the steering wheel) and if you look closely it appears that they are using the same flimsy bin to the left of the steering wheel and under the gear shifter. Tsk, tsk, Toyota.

Don't worry about the radio. The folks that make the aftermarket bezels will have a solution in a few months. Just like they did when the 03 Vibes came out (and every other car on the market). It looks like the stock radio is about the same size as the 03-07 Vibes (read 1.5din)
