Okay.. fist let me mention that I understand how rotors work, and I know all about how they can develop rust overnight when in very wet/humid areas, and that this can cause a grinding sound when braking.I expect this, it's normal. What I also expect is that it wears off very quickly and then dosen't cause a problem. (typically by the time I get to the end of the driveway, but at least by the time I get to the end of the road.)Problem: The grinding noise dosen't go away. I have inspected the rotors and cannot see any additional wear or unusual conditions. I haven't taken it apart yet to look at the pads, I will probably let the dealer do that because I only have 8K on the car yet.Anyone have any ideas? brakes seem a bit soft to me, but they did on the day I picked it up. (especially when compared to the performance brakes on my Vue.) I haven't noticed that they are any softer than they were originally.

Is it coming from the front or the rear? Have you dissasembled them to have a good look-see? It could be a crappy pad/shoe depending on which end of the car(i'm going to say front cause you mention pads)Is there any scoring/groves on the rotors... have you looked at the BACK sides of the rotors? If you look for my front brake tutorial, you can see and I mention in one of the pics some odd wear on the back side of the rotors.... maybe something to consider... Edit, i'll do you one better... http://forums.genvibe.com/zero...69190
There was some pitting on both sides, but strangely, it's gone now, and brakes are behaving normally again. Just odd. Was starting to think there was a defect in the rotors, but now I dunno. Will keep an eye on them.

I too get a lot of grinding in the morning (more than other cars I've owned), especially if I haven't driven in a few days and it's been wet. However, I do notice that road salt seems to make it a lot worse. If I've been driving around on recently salted roads that were still wet, and the car sits for a weekend, then the brake grinding seems to take a lot longer to go away.( It just makes me cringe to think about what the salt is doing to the rest of my car )
