Battery boosters jump starters

I'm looking for opinions and facts on battery boosters or jump starters as I'm tempted to run some 12 volt stuff or use the ac socket without the vehicle running. I wonder how long it would take to run the battery down requiring a jump start?I've seen discussions here about the battery not being so good on the older models but haven't heard complaints about the 07 or 08 models.

i killed the original battery just charging my cell phone in about 2-3 hours. it was also well below freezing.
