2005 GT lift questions

Post by mattman »

The other day I took my GT to 8000 rpm. I did not feel any kind of boost from 7000 on. I tried three times and nothing. The engine was warm (it showed about halfway up the temp guage) and it was warm outside. I took it to the dealer and they are clueless. First they do not know much about this engine at all and did not even understand lift (I've been in chevy's for 20 years and don't know what you are talking about). Second they did not even really look at it or try. My questions are:1) Does a 2005 GT bump at 6800 like the 2003 and 2004's I read about? I thought I saw something that the lift was changed for 2005's.2) The dealership will not do anything because they claim if the lift was not working, a check engine light would show. True or false?3) If the lift bolts are broken/damaged will a check engine light show?4) Seeing the ignorance I am up against, does anybody have any good ideas on the dealership (I only have 29000 miles so I am under warranty still)?5) Anybody in Austin, Texas know a Pontiac dealership that understands these engines? Thanks for any help (sorry about the length)

broken, worn, or sheared lift bolts will not throw a code. Only way to know there's a problem is to actually pull them and visually inspect them. If you feel brave enough to tackle it yourself, here is a walkthrough: http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=1993If you do decide to hit up a dealership, however, the bolts *should* be covered under warranty, as it is a powertrain issue.
YES!I still visit GenVibe periodically. I have not forgotten about my "original" family over here!

Remember you need to have it floored to really feel it. Anything less will just produce a change in engine tone.Checking the lift bolts isn't that hard if it really comes to that.
