scuttlebutt I've heard is that they're far more sensitive in a lot of units then current technology. I know in tests of table units, they found that while the expensive units had decent reception, lower end units got horrible reception. My personal feeling is "too little, too late"

Don't think it'd be worth it... My radio sounds just fine, with the exception of AM. I rarely listen to the broadcast radio anymore anyways. I'm hooked on XM and still listen to my CDs/MP3s. Actually, the only broadcast radio I really listen to anymore is AM talk radio.
sounds real good, crisp. and there are more channels available. like in my area there are 2 edge channels and like 3 97 rocks. i dunno, i still prefer my ipod
I posted a brief review some time ago. Here it is:http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=28607After having it for a few months my impression has improved, though only because of the increase in programming available in the NYC metro market. If any Vibe owners who have also taken the plunge can add anything else that would be great.
never been interested in it. hd radio?? how hi def is it?? cuz i don't wanna be smellin the dj's stanky breath while i'm tryna drive if i were you, i'd spend the cash on an mp3 player (which you prolly have already) instead, fill it up, and make some playlists. then you don't hafta worry bout missin half of a song you like or any of the other usual radio problems. now that i think about it, i can't even remember the last time i listened to a radio station. it's prolly been 6 months

its just digital radio, just like digital tv. so they can get more stations in making transmitting more efficient. So now like 93x could have 4 different stations all with 1 broadcast (with out getting technical) and there for could have 4 different songs going. would be great for sports. My roommate just got a digital fm HU for his car, i guess no one makes one built into the HU but a couple companies, he got a JVC i think. I still havent heard it but he loves it, sounds better and gets more NPR stations.
I just got a HD deck this weekend and I love it. I particularly like how nice it makes AM sound as I listen to it frequently for news updates and traffic reports. It was well worth the extra few bucks to get it, IMHO.

Most of the music channels on XM are also free. There are some channels like the comedy channels and some of the talk channels that have ads. I can't think of any of the music channels that aren't commercial free. In fact I'm sitting here at work chewing up valuable bandwidth listening to stream XM broadcasts via there website Mike

I don't know too much about HD radio but from what I can gather it is very similar to the DAB radio (Digital Audio Broadcast) which has been around in Europe for a lot longer. It is based on using COFDM ( a clever way of generating multiple cariers using the invese Fourier transform). This is more robust to multipath effects, fading and so on.When I lived in Europe I was involved with developing some of the DAB processing hardare for the broadcast end.Now as to whether you really hear a difference between FM and HD I'm not really sure since the audio baseband bandwidth of FM is around 15KHz. AM of course is much narrower (I believe around 5KHz) which is why it does not sound that good. But the SNR of HD over FM should be better.
i'd love to get HD radio in my car, i listen to the radio all the time, hardly ever play cd's anymore cause all of mine are mp3 and stupid stock radios arent mp3 playable which is pretty dumb if ya asked me..can you purchase this HD radio anywhere? or whats the deal

You know... there were 2 other brands I saw with HD radio built in: Insignia and Dual. Both were less expensive than the JVC but didn't have options for setting sub levels. The JVC has enough extra details that it was well worth the extra $50, no to mention that I suspect the quality is far superior.
