I have a 2005 AWD Vibe w/35k miles on it. Had the OEM Continental Tires replaced at 18k miles, thanks to a technical service bulletin that I found out about on this site; Thanks Guys! When the tires were replaced with Goodyear Eagle RS/A, back in late November of '06, the tire pressure monitor warning lamp came on, so I checked all 4 tires and found that I kept losing air pressure in one wheel. I tried to add compressed air to the tire and the valve stem was actually leaking at the base of the stem. The dealer ended up replacing the valve stem, thus the problem solved, or so I thought. A few weeks ago, I purchased 4 Dunlop Sport 3D winter ice radials and the exact same thing happened. The tire pressure monitor lamp came on and I immediately pulled over to find that the tire pressure in the same wheel as last time was as low as 18#. When I tried to add compressed air, the valve stem leaked air at the base. I had the valve stem replaced again and the problem went away. ??? Does anyone know of any problems with the Tire Pressure Monitors that are installed on these aluminum rims and what would be my best option? I only have less than 1000 miles to go before my warranty expires. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, in advance for any help you all may have!

A low pressure tire will rotate at a different ratio then the properly inflated tire, and the computer picks that up.(guys.. please correct me if I'm off base here)Diane

Diane is correct. There are no "tire pressure monitors" installed on the rims, or elsewhere. As Diane mentioned, the Tire Pressure Monitor (TPM) system uses the ABS speed sensors to detect changes in the rotational speed of the tire relative to the others. This is why the TPM 1) is only available on ABS-equipped Vibes, 2) has to be calibrated when you change the tire pressures rotate tires get new tires, 3) per the manual, may not work if two tires on the same side go low.In short, it cannot be involved in your tire pressure issue.

Diane's right, there are no stem-mounted sensors, at least up to '07, I'll have to check on the '08. The system uses the ABS sensors in the wheel hubs to read rotational differences, but only when the steering wheel is in the 'straight' position. To truely reset the system, 1st thing in the morning turn the key to the ON position, and hold the TMS button until the low tire light flashes. Then you have to drive up to 50 miles for the system to get a baseline reading.

Also added, don't go read the MO thread! those guys went off in a completely different direction, in the end there's no clear summary like we have here.
