Motor Mounts and Knock from front

Post by moonstonemike »

Hello Everyone, I've been hearing a knocking noise from what sounded like the front driverside. I would intermittently hear it when accelerating from a stop or driving at slow speed or going over a bump at slow speed. I checked the front suspension and everything seemed tight. Then I noticed while rocking the car while it was in park, rocked the motor. I don't know if I have a broken mount or if this amount of play is normal so I recorded the mounts moving so people can compare it to theirs. Thanks Heres the linksFront http://s187.photobucket.com/al...t.flvFront 2 http://s187.photobucket.com/al...2.flvRear http://s187.photobucket.com/al...r.flv

completely unacceptable, over 3 weeks and still no responseI know that mine has some amount of engine rock going on, the motor mounts are not totally rigid, but I haven't had a chance to compare your vids to my car yet, hopefully by the weekend.

Sorry For the Late responces... I guess we cant see all the posts... WE TRY THOUGH!!I'm not an expert, but it does sound like a busted motor mount to me. Like Joatman said there is supposed to be some play but it really shouldn't bang or rattle like that.

Sorry for the late update, I got my car back from the dealer a couple of weeks ago, but hadn't had time to post because of a death in the family.Well GMs conclusion was it was a broken transmission mount and a bad contol arm bushing. They ordered the part the next day changed it and called me to tell me the trans mount has been changed. When I talked to the mecahnic I asked him if he checked the motor mounts too. He said Yes and there OK.About 20 min later I get a call from someone else there telling me they changed the trans mount and it didn't feel quite perfect so there going to change all three motor mounts. 1 week backorder later and the car is finally fixed. Not bad for a car with 20,000kmOn a side note I had to order a part for a friends vibe. I ordered the rear roof rail cover and was supprised it was only about $40.00.But was more suprised when the parts guy told me those little rubber door stops are $21.00 each

Glad they got it fixed. I wonder why those parts went bad on yours with so few kms on the car

Sometimes you just get one with a few bad parts.

My car must have been built on a tuesday after a long weekend. Since I got it, The exhaust bolts were loose, the heat shield was loose, the control arm bushing was worn (probably from a loose bolt) , the trans mount was broken as was the motor mounts, and when I removed the dash to do the a/c defog diconnect I noticed 2 or three of the radio bolts were only finger tight. I also might need to go back soon because my seat height seems to keep falling. At least the dealer knows me by name now :-)
