CAI and check engine light.

Post by Kissfan79 »

Ok....just a quick poll for GT owners who have a CAI. After installing your CAI, have you ever had your check engine light come on (related ot the CAI)? I imagine one of these days I will break down and buy one but that is my main concern.....installing it and having the CEL come on.

Does anyone here know of anyone who had tried the K&N Typhoon intake system? I was looking at one online and the price was $230 (ouch) for the intake and it was similar to Nova's modified Injen. It was more of a short RAM rather than the longer CAI by Injen. Just curious about the K&N intake.Jim

I'm the one with bad luck here (not really proven yet I suppose) - I voted yes because I strongly suspect that its the CAI, but It could be just a bumb rap. I tore my knees up during an Appalachian trail hike with the Boy Scout troop, so it will be a few more days before I am able to start working on it again.

Bad luck? Possibly. I've had 2 CAI on 2 Toyota based vehicles and the infamous CEL has come on within a day or 2. never have figured out how to get it off other than taking it back to stock. And why would i want to do that? love that deep growl and added umph too much to worry about the nuisance of the CEL. I've heard from other sources such as K&N, that Toyota based engines run a 50/50 chance of the CEL coming on from a CAI. It may also be due to the combination of a modified exhaust and the CAI since they sent me a new "tube" for my '01 Ivan Stewart Tundra. I spoke to TRD/Carson Toyota and they told me to check all the cables, hoses, etc. The dealership will still need to reset the light. Just unplugging and replugging the battery won't work.I'm in the same boat as Lorin. Still the CEL on and not enough time to play with it or take it in. Besides taking it back to stock, bringing it to the dealership to check it, I've run out of ideas? Any input is welcome.
