Windows XP 64 bit OS (Computer help)

Post by vibe-04 »

I need some advice. I'm prepping 3 computers for friends (AMD 64 dual 4200, 2 GB RAM, 250 GB HD) and I installed Win XP 64 bit OS. They are for low skilled users (2 single moms and 1 student). Now I know 32 bit apps will run but I've just learned that iTunes for example will not? The 64 bit allows for more RAM address space (who cares) but is that all the benefit?Question: Should (or can) I load my Win XP 32 bit OS and not bother with the 64 bit version? What do you think?Andrew

64 bit is currently a useless product unless you are using linux or have the 1 application that supports it, ie. adobe. 32bit is the way to go for best compatibility. the 64bit is wicked fast but seriously...i couldnt get my games (64bit ones) to work or my AV client (64bit as well) its such a bother. i run a amd 64bit althlon and 32bit windows and its fast when windows works. i say 32bit windows.

I would also load up the 32bit Windows OS less hassle that way!

i agree with the others, stick with 32bit for non advanced users. i'm running basically the same setup and run both 32 and 64. the only issue that i've really had with 64bit is i cant get a printer driver. i've been running itunes no problem. being an engineering student i dont have time to game so i cant really comment on issues with that (in the past i did have half life 2 64bit version and that worked fine). i use avast for antivirus which runs fine. 64bit helps with design programs and calculation intense stuff

I'm running Vista 64bit with no problems. I use Cinema4d, a 3D graphics package and it screams. yeah, in general, most users will not see and difference from 32 bit to 64 bit

Unless you have 4 gig or more of ram stick with the 32bit versions of windows. I run Vista 64Bit in my new system and 4 gig of ram and quad core proccessor, it flys. Mostly use for photo editing.
