free dvd burning program?

does anyone use a free program to convert .avi's and other vid formats to dvd images? im looking for one and i was just wondering if anyone had any experience? i used to use alcohol 120 but i accidentally uninstalled it and i dont want to pay the 38 bucks again...

i have a list with one on it, but its on my work pc. so ill post it later, its open source so no "shareware" or trial crap. converts many types to other types
